Coach Crowley’s opening statement: I told the kids at the end that it’s sad to have the end of the season, but you just had over 4,000 people cheer you off the floor and that’s really specials, and they deserve it. They play with great heart and passion and its been a very special year and I’m excited for what our young kids have been through and hopefully it will motivate them to keep going. I’m very sad that I only have a few more weeks with my seniors because they are amazing human beings.
Crowley on his view of the game: We just couldn’t keep scoring with them. I’d be thrilled any day we could get 66 points and I don’t think we even defended badly and they got 80. They’re very talented and we haven’t seen speed like that ever and they had size too. They put a lot of pressure on us defensively and in the end I think the one three they got towards the end after we had taken the lead really gave them a boost. In the end I think we were just tired, we ran out of gas. We worked so hard in our other two games and there has been so much emotion that as the game ran down you saw that with our shots falling short. I couldn’t be more proud to be this team’s coach and more proud of the campus and the community for the support they gave us.
On the crowd’s response at the end of the game: I wanted to give a big thank you but to see that kind of support and to know these guys deserved it was great. They are great teammates and even greater kids so it’s something they’ll look back upon and realize what a big deal it was.
Katelyn Murray on the emotional crowd support: It’s just remarkable to see the support. It just can’t get any better than this and I just thank everyone for it.
Katelyn Murray on the final minutes of the game: They’re a scoring team and we just couldn’t keep up with them at that point. We played solid defense at the end but they were really athletic and they kept getting their shots. The last couple minutes it starts hitting you and unfortunately it had to end sometime. If anywhere, I’m glad it happened here.
Megan Van Tatenhove on her strategy in the first half: I knew that in our first two games our first half hasn’t been what we’re capable of and I wanted to take advantage of them guarding me with shorter players and just trying to use the pump fake to get them in foul trouble.
Murray on the underclassmen’s development: I think that all of the underclassmen and even the juniors too have progressed so well this year and it has been such a huge stepping block for them this year and to carry on the next year. Megan is just one example, even the girls that don’t play all the time, at practice they’ve gotten us better. They’re the people you may not hear much about but they’re the reason why we’re here.
Crowley on the Bulls: If we played today like we played against 95% of our schedule we’d win. I can’t look at us and say that we played bad, they just played better. It’s the best team we’ve played in a while. We haven’t seen a combination of that speed size and guard talent and they’re playing at a high level. I think they can win the tournament and I think they could’ve won two or three games in the NCAA tournament.
