Interesting quotes from todays paper. I could not make the trip up to Syracuse, but would enjoy others thoughts on the Bona turnout, what SBU and SU fans thought of Bonas as well as thoughts going into our next two Little Three games?
I hope we can get Syracuse back on our schedule when Andrews still playing - I am sure he would like another chance at Syracuse in the Dome. A Loss is a Loss, but I am proud the way this team played the #5 team in the country. There is no way this team should not have a very successful season if they can play every team in the A10 like they did last night.
Heres the quotes:
“Different guys step up every game,’’ Rautins said. “That’s what makes our team special. St. Bonaventure’s a good team. They’re going to win some games this year. They played us pretty tough defensively, but we were able to break it open with a couple key shots.
“This game during exams is always difficult,’’ SU coach Jim Boeheim said. “I just didn’t think we had the quickness defensively that we have had. Offensively, we played very well when we didn’t turn it over. We just made some really, really bad turnovers tonight.’’
Any hopes that St. Bonaventure still had of pulling off the upset faded with 8:29 remaining in the game when sophomore center Andrew Nicholson was ejected for committing a flagrant foul. Nicholson hit Rautins in the groin as he brushed by the Syracuse guard.
Rautins slumped to the court and then rolled over to point at Nicholson. The referees threw Nicholson, who led the Bonnies with 18 points, out of the game after reviewing the replay.
Rautins felt certain that Nicholson’s fist was intentional.
“No question. He hit me before,’’ Rautins said. “He hit me two plays before that. He came down and hit me with an elbow. I let that one slide. Then he came down again after I hit the shot and he hit me square in that region. I knew it was intentional after that point.’’
Nice praise from Rautins on our squad. Boeheim's talking about playing during exams and how thats difficult is a JOKE! I would love to see some of the schedules those kids are taking. The bigger the schools the more cupcake classes there available to take. I am sure some are good students but come on.
Rautins, comments about Andrew taking blows at him are interesting would love to know more about this from those who saw it on tv, or got a good view of it live. I am sure there was some classic acting in there.
Good Showing Bonas now get ready for the Purple Eagles!
Go Bonas!
