The title of the thread is obvious to everyone. Last nights loss was one of the worst in a long time considering the lead we had in the first half. That being said the flaws on this team are constantly getting in the way of us getting a signature win or beating any quality team for that matter. You can say what you want about Schmidt and that it was his fault we lost the game(which I dont agree with), but there are three major reasons why we keep losing these types of games and will continue to do so until we get better players: 1. POINT GUARD PLAY: any coach will tell you , you are only as good as your guards. We have Eleby, Ogo and Matthews. None can run the team like it should be handled. Controlling tempo, hitting the open man(Nicholson), breaking down another teams defense, being able to shoot from the perimeter to stretch a def.(only Matthews). Defensively they cant keep the opposition in front of them exposing Andrew in the back on many 2 on 1 situations causing him to foul. 2.#4 SPOT: Cook, Simmons, Jake, Brett are not good enough to make teams have to worry about them. One can rebound a little, one can play a little def, and so on. None have the skill level and athleticism to be a factor night in and night out. 3. LEADERSHIP: I see none from any senior, ever.

jmp, do you feel that Coach SCHMIDT and staff should take some of the blame for not having recruited a A10 quality point? HOUSE, COOK, & SIMMONS might get there some day but maybe the team and ANDREW miss GREASE THOMAS more than we think. I'm not saying GREASE should still be here but he had the size, skill, and importantly the experience we need. The staff had the right idea last year trying to recruit JC KEVON LYTCH(good size and skills, unfortunetly poor academics) but when LYTCH went elsewhere the staff was not recruiting anyone similar. This won't be popular with some but we need a big JUCO PF to compliment ANDREW until what we now have is ready.

A better question would be "this spring, who would have been the better recruit between Lytch or Roseboro?" This spring Roseboro was being recruited by BCS schools. Have to believe Schmidt would chosen Roseboro over Lytch, especially with Schmidt's focus on the future and not the present. Despite Brett's need for development, still believe he has good upside for an A-10 big man. We just need to be patient.
I wonder why Marquise Simmons does not receive more playing time. He has been productive when he has been on the floor.

Agree with you on points 1 and 3, but in this game, in my estimation, the coach failed to take advantage of D'Quan Cook's hot play in the middle of the second half and took him out....
Also, if what was brought to our attention on this board was true, and Schmidt didn't switch up defense a little bit to offset the Niagara run, that is suspect coaching...

Ever since I've been following the Bonnies, my friends and I would always say "All we need is a good center"..........now we have a great one, and after having such great guard play for years, now that is what is missing. Ugh!

We can survive with the 4 headed monster at the 4. Power-forwards don't win or lose games in college as long as you have a good center. Its guard play that really sets the good teams apart.

B02 I agree with you that a PF does not set apart the good teams but I think our lack of a strong PF is one of the things that's leading to Andrew's foul trouble.
