Well said Artie!
Most likely for every step forward there will be a ½-step back. Who thought or even dared to think that this would be easy.
I like the progress, eventhough it is easy to think it should or could move quicker.
Have to commend the coaching staff and players who are giving it all and leaving it all on the court.
As previous post from eyewitnesses have documented the players like ASmith & PWilliams are getting battered, TRelph is good and will be productive but he isn't the next coming of JStockton (yet).
The 2 to 4 "kids" (Hawkins, Lee, Carson & Benson) will continue to grow, reinforcements are in the way with Jourdan & JWilliams (& hopefully 2-more solid recruits).
We are at 6-5 now and considering all of the factors like injuries, it seems right on target! Granted one more win would have been awesome but the team & coaches are growing together but we still have alot of work to do.
Can we win 4-A10 games at home for 10-wins for the season, have to believe that it should be the mininium.
Can we steal another 1 or 2 at home against the upper echlon A10-teams that come to the RC? Can we rise to the challenge and get 1-2 road wins in the A10?
Of course it is possible, this is college hoops where anything is possible! Almost any team is capable of beating another team, who would have guessed that UT-SA would win this tourney? That Marist would have wins against a Big East & an A10 teams?
12-wins should still be the goal of this team and an overachievement of sorts since most everyone agreed that a 10-win season was realistic.

Sneakers the critical comments are due to the fact that in coaching terms, coach does not appear to know his Xs and Os. I don't think anyone can argue that... There was a game earlier this year (I can't remember which one) where some posted praise for the coach's adjustments during the game. So, people can argue about that. I am not a coach or an accomplished former player. I don't attend the practices. I don't know who is following the coachs' orders or not, and I only get to see one game a year. Based on all this, I refrain from either criticizing or praising the coach too much (I learned a lesson from praising JvBK after the UConn game), but I give him and the team 100% support. I don't know the credentials of the critics that post here, so maybe you are right, but my reasoning tells me that a tiny, out of the way school, on the brink of insolvency not that many years ago and the focus of one of the biggest scandals in the country (or own alumni turned on us), is not going to get the kind of coaches many of you seem to believe would just die to take this job. I think this coach deserves a chance and time to turn this thing around. Sorry to repeat what you said, Dem. I hadn't read your complete post before typing out this one.

Can we put the "at least were better than last year" justification to bed?

Nothing personal, but what makes you think you know more about x's and o's coaching than someone who has been doing it professionally at a high level for his whole career? I agree that there are some moves that have been made during games that don't appear to make sense to me either, but I don't know the whole story. There could very well be a method to what can appear to to some to be maddness. Some moves may not be in the short-term interest of winning a particular game, but may be in the long-term best interest of the program. Also, all decisions made during a game carry a risk. Some work out and some don't but you never know until you try. Any Monday morning quarterback can be critical of moves made the night before, or moves that were not made the night before but should have been. This adds little value to the discussion. I think Sol deserves the benefit of the doubt.
For God's sake, we have a winning record so far this year. What an outstanding improvement on the program's march forward. I think there are amature basketball fans that for some reseason think they know more about how to coach a game or how to deal with the players. Perhaps they do, but as long as Sol contimues to make improvements to the program he should have the full support of the fans.
(and Brower - NO, we cannot put "at least we are better than last year" to bed. That is what we should judge our coaching staff on. Are they making improvements or not? If not, we could have an issue, but if we are making strides to improve the program each year that is extremely relevant)

Chuck,
Will you please explain your vendetta against Solomon? Almost every post you make you talk about what great players Solomon has or how weak the schedule is. Was it something personal he did? Please enlighten us. Thank you. I would also like to say how much I enjoy your insight. You are a credit to this board.

Dem Bonnies and SBU79 have it right. At the current time, SBU as an institution is not on anyone's hit parade. The fact that our hoops program has not completely imploded is something for which I give a great deal of credit to Coach Solomon. He took on a job almost nobody else would have taken, for not a lot of money (comparatively) and is bringing dignity back to a place that sorely needs it. Continue the march Coach!

Amen Oldschool. It is telling, assuming your moniker is correct, that it is mostly the older supporters who are patient and want to give Coach time to deal with issues. I wonder what, if anything, that implies.

I don't claim to be an expert on coaching and I for one could not draw up the proper plays to make a team successful. But just because I can't do this doesn't mean that I don't know how to critique coaching. A good offensive football coach like Charlie Weis can switch up his play calling enough to be effective against any defense. A good basketball coach like Marist's can figure out a defensive strategy to smother a team and an offense to exploit weaknesses. Our biggest strength from watching all the games is that we are very athletic and can tire out teams in an uptempo game. We have not been playing to our strengths. When people say that the players aren't playing up to par and not playing with emotion I say that attitude reflects leadership. I take issue mainly with the posters who are overly critical of the players and not of the coach. I have a greater respect for the players because they have choosen Bonaventure over other school. Solomon gets paid a large sum of money for his job and should be criticized for his wrongs and complemented for his rights. I am excited about Jourdan Morris, hope he is all I've heard he'll be. I like the direction the team/program is going in but I pray that Solomon grows as a strategist.
