Its too bad that Bonaventure's staff is in Miami this week, because there is a lot of high school talent playing in the Stop DWI tournament in Binghamton. There are already some signed guys playing like David Lighty (Ohio St) and Brian McKenzie (Providence). I would think several of David Lighty's younger teammates would be Bonaventure targets being that the school he goes to St. Joe's is in Cleveland.
However there is some good unsigned talent playing like Heath White from Taft HS in Ohio 6'2 sg and Brandon Russ a 6'8 pf from Taft, additionally another 6'8 junior Tyrone Bradshow from Taft as well. Some of the other notable talent that is there is 6'8 pf from MD. Augusta Gilchrest who would seem like a perfect fit for Bonaventure at the 4 position, he explodes off the floor.
Also of note, Dan Evans of Auburn a rumored target of Bonaventure was in the stands watching the games. If anyone is from the Binghamton area, there is some good talent to watch (its through Thursday) if you have the time watching David Lighty's team play was worth the price of admission, they play great team basketball.

May be of interest to some.....David Lighty's mother is a former employee of Adelphia. He strongly considered Syracuse before committing to Ohio St., joining Greg Odom in one of the top recruiting classes for 2006.

The Cattaraugus County IAABO Tournament 1st round games were yesterday as well - at the RC. Maybe it should be renamed the 'Stop DWI' Tournament as well - as in the ref who called the 3 shot foul against one team in a tied game on a baseball pass from the other foul line! THAT REF MUST HAVE BEEN DRUNK! Especially considering the head officials, some Jones guy, got in his face as he left the court and they had a heated exchange about the call. Loud enough for those of us in the reds above them to hear!
Catt. County has always had the reputation of having the worst basketball and baseball officials in NYS - they didn't do anything yesterday to disprove that! The Mayor of Olean even did a game, from what I hear. No word on if he has fired any youth league refs lately.

Bona Coaches need to make the 90 minute drive to Erie PA to see the McDonald's Classic. Erie Cathedral Prep is the host team with Chester Pa (returning PIAA State AAAA Champs), Mt. Vernon and Rufus King rounding out the four team field. One of the strongest 4 team tournaments in the nation. Several cuurent NBA players have come to Erie and several D1 players on tap for this year. It takes place Friday, January 13th and Saturday, January 14th at the Gannon Hammermill Center.

I don't read the crap they call the Times-Herald - a friend just scanned and sent me the article about the new Olean Mayor threatening to fire a teenage ref of a youth league game!?
Is Mr. Caruccis still a clown of a memeber of that awesome Catt. County IAABO?

Any one can take the officials course to become certified if they want to....Maybe you should get out of the computer chair and give it a try....... P.S. I'm not an IAABO official.....

I always get a kick out of that reply from bad refs 'Hey, you go take the course and get out here!' As if some people not wanting to, or not being able to, be a ref gives them the right to be bad? It is obvious in Catt. County that the basketball officials do not have to be former players, or pass a physical or health examination before officiating games. Have they ever sent anyone away or actually told someone 'You stink!' From what I hear it is whoever can do the games gets the games - with no feedback from their 'leadership' on how they are doing. '
'Take the test.' Nice copout for poor officiating.

Obviously, you're not well informed on the process.....I am an assistant basketball coach, and I know alot of the officials, both in Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties. There is feedback from their leadership on how they are doing....Bottom line is this....If you can do better, TAKE THE TEST!

Cattaraugus and Allegany County officials are assigned games in part based on ratings from the coaches - a horrible decision IMO. You can see who gets the games because of the "buddy network" and who doesn't get games because they happen to call games the right way. Unfortunately, no matter how it is done, there will always be a high amount of politics involved.

No matter what line of "work" you are in there is politics. "People do business with people", and as long as that holds up there will be opinions as to politics. The only way we get in the Indiana State Basketball tournament is thru the coaches vote which is very controversial.
I officiate (H.S basketball & basketball) in the state of Indiana and I could swear I've heard the same thing out here. To paraphrase up above..." I always get a kick out of replys from fans(re: uninformed)." If I sit in the stands to observe a game it is eye opening to listen to the ignorance from the uninformed or misinformed.
As I say in my pre-game with coaches and players ... " you don't miss any shots and we won't miss any calls."
PS. The first games I ever officiated were SBU intramurals as a student. Talk about a eye opener!

Referees are human and the one element in life is that humans make errors. Although the process of making error after error is anamalistic
