OLEAN — Robert R.
“Bobby” Sassone, formerly of
New Jersey, who last lived with
his parents at their Olean home,
where he passed away, died
Sunday (Oct. 9 , 2011.)
Born Aug. 14, 1959, in Olean,
he was a son of Robert and
Irene Luty Sassone.
He was a
graduate of Olean High School,
Class of 1977. In 1977, he won
the Regional Sectional Golf
Championship. He served with
the U.S. Air Force from 1983 to
1990 and the Air Force Reserves
from 2001 to 2011. He was a
contractor employed by the
Department of the Navy as a
computer operator.
Bobby enjoyed all sports,
including St. Bonaventure basketball,
the Buffalo Bills and the
Philadelphia Phillies.
Surviving are two sons,
Robert M. Sassone of
Pennsauken, N.J., and Gregory
J. Sassone of Lewiston; his parents,
Robert and Irene Sassone
of Olean; two brothers, Michael
Sassone of Bristow, Va., and
John Sassone of Tampa, Fla.;
two sisters, Ann (Francis)
Tommasino of Newport News,
Va., and Laurie (Michael) Kalo
of Allentown, Pa..; several nieces
and nephews, including Jerome,
Mark and Nick Kalo, Francis
and Christine Tommasino, and
Andrew Sassone; several aunts,
uncles and cousins; and a special
friend, Joseph “Hoss” (Janet)
Washington of Allentown, N.J.
Family will receive friends
Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and
7 to 9 p.m. at the Guenther
Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State
St., Olean. Family and friends
are invited to attend a Mass
of Christian burial at 10 a.m.
Wednesday (Oct. 12, 2011)
in Transfiguration Oratory.
Father Gregory Dobson will
be celebrant. Burial will be
in St. Bonaventure Cemetery,
Allegany.
