Back to Lavon.....he announced on twitter this morning that he will announce his Top 5 tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if SBU lands in Lavon top 5. He has visited a few schools and it is said that Curran really likes him. Long is an interesting prospect to me. Kinda a late bloomer, but at 6-6 225, he would be nice to have running on the wings. I think it will come down to whether he wants to sign early or take a chance on his stock rising (which it probably will) during the season. If he signs early someone like kennesaw st. or longwood will get a steal.

If he had made the shot from behind the basket it wouldn't have counted. He made the shot from the foul line on the Niagara side of the court. Sorry...context was not quite right....I meant that I was "behind the basket" watching from the Bona Faithful who went bananas! 84...you moved in two doors down from where Delmar was the previous year on Second Shay...on the opposite side of our room. Delmar was the man!

Lavon Long will go on an official to Kennesaw St this weekend. He is their #1 guy and first recruit on campus. Bonnies will make top 5 if he decides to wait till after season to sign.

I'm not sure they where referring to how long KSU has been D1.

Which begs the question why our name sticks out so much on that list?

Which begs the question why our name sticks out so much on that list? I give coach Schmidt and his staff tremendous credit for what was accomplished last year. Yet, (maddening to some, I know) I reserve the right to expess my periodic frustration with our recruiting. However, the fact that we are the 'biggest' name (as in "if he is any good why aren't bigger schools after him") on that list doesn't concern me. This staff does an exceptional job of identifying kids who can play before alot of other schools are on board. If they like Lavon Long, that's good enough for me. btw - I like what I see of him on the video. Needs to be able to use the right hand to score, but he handles the ball well for his size, gets up and down the court like Schmidt wants, can put it on the floor and score, looks strong, passes well, rebounds and looks to have a good motor.

Which begs the question why our name sticks out so much on that list? I think there are a couple of reasons. Some of it maybe Lavon himself. If you look at some old photos, it appeared as if he was still carrying some extra baby fat . All reports are that he has slimmed down a lot. There is also speculation that at MSJ he was playing out of position as a back to the basket type of player. I have been told that at his new school (as with this previous AAU season) he will be allowed to play on the wing more, with the ball in his hands. My understanding is that he is very good off the dribble, creating for himself and for others. But like Bart said, I don't concern myself with who's recruiting a kid. I mean, you look at last years roster, not one of them SBU had to beat out a big name for.

Lavon Long played center for Mount Saint Joseph in Baltimore MD for 3 seasons. He played AAU for MD3D as a rising Jr for coach Reed and showed his skills in the DDm offense. He ended that summer with 7 offer including Dayton along with a few CAA and NEC schools. He went back to MSJ for his junior year and adveraged 3 shots per game with 10 Reba, 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 4 asst. MSJ won the Baltimore Catholic League tournament and he made the All tournament team as he hit 11 of 11 freethrows 6 down the stretch. This past summer he played with MidAtlanticSelect and Coach Lee let him play 1-5 on both ends of the floor. He is developing into a complete player. He picked up 18 total offers and is looking for the best fit.

I have no reason to doubt your info., and I have seen the expanded list you refer to elsewhere. I am glad that we made it into Lavon's final 5 and hope we can get him to sign this fall.

Amazing to hear of a player in today's world that only received 3 shot attempts per game but could stay focused and contribute in other areas of the game. (I agree with bartmitchell...Lavon sounds like the type of player the staff searches out and has had a lot of success developing.)

youtu.be/YIGfyYbwOZ4He now attends Oakland Mills High school and will play his game. The clip above is from summer league play with OM. Lavon is a coaches dream as he does whatever it takes to win. MSJ was centered around two guards that took all the shots and he got all the rebounds and anchored the D.
