www.youtube.com/watch?v=AL6dtSvMpMA Happy Holidays to all of you and your families!! Lavon is enjoying his senior year at Oakland Mills. He is doing well on and off the court..so well that prep schools are calling wanting him to hold off college another year to get a higher offer. What do you guys think?

Personally, I think attending a prep school can only help athletically, provided the right school is chosen. It gives the kid another year to mature and perfect his game. Almost always the extra year brings "higher" offers. If Lavon is looking to go higher than Loyola, than this may be a good route. Just be prepared for all the Loyola fans to absolutely kill Lavon for "backing out on his commitment". We Bona fans have extensive experience with kids signing at SBU and than attending prep schools to aquire higher offers. In both case the athlete did sign with BCS level schools and have played well.

The only prep schools he should be looking at are in the NEPSAC, New England Prep School Athletic Council. Schools like Brewster Academy, Northfield Mt Hermon, Wilbraham & Monson Academy, St Thomas Moore, Worcester Academy, schools of that nature. That is where the best prep school basketball in the nation is.

JAC and RobFal are right on the money. There are many "prep schools" that are not going to provide the balanced student/athlete aspect of life. You want the school to mentally prepare Lavon for college so that he can succeed in the classroom, not just on the basketball court. You have to look at where he is in his life. You selected Loyola for specific reasons. Have those reasons changed? Does he want to go to a school with a higher basketball competition? Does he need to physically mature? Does he need to emotionally mature? Do you want to go through the recruiting process again? He gave his word to Loyola, how important is that? Remember basketball is a business, and you have to do what is right for the Long family.

Difficult to add to the fine advice provided to Lavon & his family.
I would only stress the point made by robfalbonnies on the NEPSAC being the best prep school competition in the nation AND the schools he mentions. There is a wide range of academic levels and robfalbonnies mentions those that have a fine reputation. The key is to stay away from those that have less than an exemplary academic environment.

Thanks I really wanted to hear an opinion from those without a dog in the fight...they are calling but that would be a long shot...Lavon is not the kid to worry about level and he is happy with his selection...and I really doubt he would want to reopen the process he was glad to end early..thanks for your thoughts

"Lavon Long is out of his Letter of Intent...could land at Siena w/ new staff"
Wonder if our staff still has an interest....

Congratulations to Lavon on his strong senior season. (he certainly has good basketball genes !) It's a shame about the shake-up due to the coaching change. Siena is also Franciscan, and is a Bona 'sister school', so most here have a high opinion of the place. Especially if the family likes coach Patsos, I would think it merits strong consideration.
Just my .2 cents, but I like Siena better than the other schools Lavon has made 'officials' too. Good luck !

playerparentcoach......Good luck with your visit to Siena. I agree with comments from bartmitchell. One of my daughters visited Siena & Bonaventure & selected Bona. Siena is a fine Franciscan school. One of our Bandwagon posters had daughters at Bona & Siena. Maybe he'll offer his observations or send you a PM (personal message).
Lavon is blessed to have a mom with player and coaching experiences that will guide him well.
