Talked to Coach Schmidt today about the incoming recruits for an SBU-TV story. Here's some tidbits (I'll post the actual story after we do the newscast tomorrow):
-Jordan Gathers will be playing the two as Iakeem Alston and (he couldn't mention him by name since the paperwork isn't official) Jaylen Adams will run the point. He likes to have three PGs, though, so we'll see who else he has playing there. -Marcus Posley will be the Matthew Wright-type shooter. Likely off the bench.
Based off our conversation, this is what I would guess the early rotation projection is: PG - Alston, Jay. Adams, TBD (Posley or Gathers... despite what Schmidt wants) SG - Gathers, J. Adams, Posley SF - Cumberbatch, Gregg (J. Adams can get a shot here eventually) PF - Wright, Smith (Tyson and Dees may get some run here if they go big) C - Youssou, Tyson, Dees
Posley and J. Adams will fight for the first guard off the bench. My early favorite would be Posley. Has previous D1 experience. Physically ready and able. Adams still has some growing and maturing to do.
(NOT whoring out my twitter account, just posting it since I posted some other thoughts and will tweet more stuff from the interview there... But twitter.com/DylanStebbins is where I've been putting most of my stuff in case I don't come back here since I never post).

Great info - how might you compare Iakeem to Jaylen as a PG ? Given their age difference how might you expect the PG position to be split by them this year? We hear Iakeem is more of a defender/ballhandler and slash to the basket without a top outside shot where Jaylen has a better shot but maybe not quite the defense.... any of this seem true based on what you have seen?? thanks Yes Ikeem is older and more polished as a playmaker. I have not seen him play in a while but back in the day he struggled with consistency with his shot. Jaylen is fundamentally sound and a natural pg that can score. Ikeem is prob a better defender because he is bigger. Jaylen is quick enough to defend on the perimeter and understands the principles of team defense. His problem is his size on that end of the floor. Your breakdown of the differences in their games is almost spot on

Hoping J Adams game is similar to past A-10 RI pg Tyson Wheeler.

Not sure why I keep clicking on this, but I do. Anyway, 2014 recruiting is over, right? The class was complete with the 2 PGs we signed a few months ago, correct?
