Shame if Portland waives Andrew. But if they do what are Andrew's options?

I wonder what happens if he takes his talents to say Europe = is his NBA contract then voided?

So if Portland waives AN under the stretch provision which is what I saw Woj reported, AN gets paid all the remaining $20ish million that he is owed and 1/7th his remaining guaranteed salary counts against Portland's cap for the next 7 years. AN is free to try to be signed by any team other than Brooklyn and maybe Portland that includes foreign leagues or the G(D) league.
I hope AN gets the opportunity to play somewhere but the NBA has transitioned away from playing AN's game. He was lucky to be a free agent last year when people were throwing crazy money around and he got paid. I hope he finds a new team soon.

But Portland will waive him. This is a salary cap move for them[/quot Andrew will get his $20 million payable over the next 7 years. Unfortunately he may be out of the league. Unlikely an NBA team will pick up his contract. I believe in 48 hours once he clears waivers he can resign to a minimum contract with any team other than Brooklyn or Portland and still gets paid the full amount of his original deal. You might be correct that this might be his last stop but hopefully he gets one more go on a team that will give him some consistent minutes.

Wondering if Andrew would take it outside of basketball? He's a very intelligent science guy and there was some mention quite awhile ago of possibly medical school post Andrew's basketball days. Andrew has the smarts and the money to make that happen if he wishes.

If a team can sign AN for a minimum contract, I would think he has a good chance of being picked up. He can certainly help a team off the bench, is going to work hard and be a good character guy, probably isn't going to complain about minutes, etc etc. Maybe a very good team without much cap space. Is Frye going back to Cleveland?!?

Hopefully a team gives him a huge chance to play major minutes. They will not be disappointed. If that does not happen he could easily play in Europe or Israel. Medical School also beckons. What ever - he continues to be a solid ambassador for Bonas.

Isn't David Vanterpool an asst. in Portland? Correct. Assistant coach of the Portland Trailblazers.

An individual close to the NBA tells me Andrew's NBA career is over. He is allowed to pursue another contract in the NBA but he probably won't be tendered anything, even base pay. He's still guaranteed the ~20 mil in his contract and can take his talents to Europe and double that sum. Europe is likely where he ends up.
I still blame his coaches in Orlando for failing to realize his talent and drill in a little defense. I kinda feel like he was never given a chance despite performing well in limited minutes.
On the bright side, thunderdunks won't have to lift a finger and still get $20 million.

Isn't David Vanterpool an asst. in Portland? David Vanterpool is a terrific young coach. I had the pleasure of speaking with him at Nashville during our NCAA tournament appearance. He is another great ambassador for Bonas. If he can assist AN he will, of that there is no doubt. AN will be on someone's NBA roster when camp opens in September. AN is way better than 50% of the players on current NBA rosters.

No tears for AN - He pushed his talent as far as it could go and was paid like a champ. Hopefully he plays in Europe and makes tons of money. He will always be my favorite Bonnie. I reconnected with so many old friends during The A-10 Championship run. It was the best 3-4 days of hoops in my life.

If there was a post graduation award for Ideal Bonaventure Man I would nominate Andrew. He certainly represents SBU and himself splendidly.

So what is latest update on AN. Is he still on the Trail Blazers pre season roster? Will David Vanderpool assist him in his NBA journey? There is no doubt that AN has the talent to make on a NBA roster and help a team, especially when one looks at the team rosters and observes the burned out wrecks still collecting large paychecks. AN can play and play well. Here is hoping that this very fine kid - gets the opportunity he so richly deserves - to be a starter.
