Drew was cut. Hes currently playing for the Canadian national team atm. You see, this is false. Completely inaccurate info and post. He has not been cut - listed on the Trail Blazers roster, and in fact has a photo on the roster page. If you're not sure about something, probably don't post it. OR...just look it up! Something out there now called the World Wide Web, or internet as some people would call it. type in: www.nba.com/blazers/roster - and see for yourself! It's an amazing tool!

The article is confusing. Please reconfirm.....is Andrew no longer an NBA player with the Trailblazers?

Ok. So what does the cut mean for Drew? Is the Canadian National gig well paid? What happens to his $20,000,000+ NBA contract. I'm concerned for Drew and hope that he has landed on his feet. I hope that he always knows that he has the support of his SBU family.

I hope that he always knows that he has the support of his SBU family. NBA has guaranteed contracts. Nicholson was still due $19.9 million from his original deal over the next three years. This just allows the Blazers to waive him and stretch it out over 7 years. Andrew will collect $2.84 million annually until 2024. He is also free to sign with anyone in the NBA other than Portland or take his talents oversees

if Andrew was drafted 10 or 15 years ago he would've easily had a long, probably very impressive NBA career. The game has changed and, sadly in my opinion, switched out of post play and fundamentals to just simply running up and down the court and chucking 3 pointers all game. Hard for a guy like Andrew to get the ball in the post and do what he does best when they are shooting it from deep 5 secs into the shot clock.
Still $20 million over the next 7 years, that's awesome for him.

My guess is he is done in the NBA. Like tasty said, the game doesnt suit what he is best at right now. He could still catch on with a team but odds are he will play in Europe or pursue other professional opportunities. He is set for life though. Maybe he would want to get into coaching?

Schmidt built his game around Andrew when he was here, and that was contrary to the impression he gave of how the team would play and now plays. They found success that way. Not happening in the NBA.
I had assumed the "stretch" was for cap purposes only and not for actual cash flow. I didn't realize Andrew's income stream would be stretched as well.

I think Andrew's payment remains the same as it would have been. The stretch applies to the Blazers' cap.
Also, if he does catch on with an NBA team, he still gets the full amount of his $20 million contract. His new team would pay whatever amount they sign him to, and the Blazers would cover the difference.

As I understand it, if any NBA team signs Thunderdunks, it will be a new contract and he will be paid the new contract sum plus the amount owed to him by Portland. However, as has been stated many times, his career in the NBA is almost definitely over. He will probably collect his $20 million and then double it in Europe. It's a bummer the school no longer has a representative in the NBA but Thunderdunks will be just fine.
