Ok. So what does the cut mean for Drew? Is the Canadian National gig well paid? What happens to his $20,000,000+ NBA contract. I'm concerned for Drew and hope that he has landed on his feet. I hope that he always knows that he has the support of his SBU family. Are you serious?? Your concerned for a young man who has a great degree from SBU, will bank close to 30 million dollars because of basketball, oh and got to play pro basketball in the NBA for 5 years, and has his head on his shoulders!!!!! Some people now a days who get concerned about a pro athlete that has made more money than 99.9 percent of people will make in their lifetime! Maybe everybody should send a condolence card to him because he got cut by the Trailblazers. Him making the NBA did nothing for our basketball program, haven't made an NCAA tourney apprearance since he left. People value making it to the NBA as the end all of having a good program!

This was a foregone conclusion when he was traded to the Blazers. There was never an intention for him to suit up for them. His agent was looking at other opportunities, awaiting the formality to occur.

Nicholson's best game in the NBA:

I do think being drafted by the Magic stunted his growth as a player. That organization has no direction. Having said that, I think it's clear that Drew isn't a fit in today's NBA. That contract from the Wizards was a godsend.

"It's a bummer the school no longer has a representative in the NBA but Thunderdunks will be just fine."
Might not be long before they do. Jay & Matt both have a shot. Maybe not as 1st round picks, but a shot nonetheless. They both have the ability.

I really don't understand professional sports contracts, salary caps etc.. I am glad that Andrew has landed on his feet and will continue to be an active, professional player overseas. One question.....how does one get a gig that pays millions after being layed off? Is this sort of like the "golden parachutes" some high level business execs receive when departing their organizations?

Damn. A year ago it seemed he played well enough that he was going to have probably a ten year NBA career.

Why would the Trailblazers sign a multi million dollar contract with Andrew if they knew that he would never be an active player and in all probability would be cut (which is just what happened)?

Why would the Trailblazers sign a multi million dollar contract with Andrew if they knew that he would never be an active player and in all probability would be cut (which is just what happened)? The Trailblazers had to except him as part of a package trade. Along with the contract he already had. In the end I believe it had a lot to do with taking and easier hit to there salary cap.

The guy they sent to Brooklyn is owed $50 million over the next three years. They got out of luxury tax range with this deal and stretching Nicholson's salary over helps them even more long term.

I think you can become a nuclear physicist or figure out the NBA salary cap - but you don't have time to do both.

You know, BF5K, I had blocked your posts a while ago bcuz I got tired of certain rants by you and I was actually thinking this morning of "unblocking" your comments. But after reading this one, I recollect why I blocked you in the first place. Players that choose to come to Bonas are forever connected to most of us through that choice they made to attend a university we've all grown to love. Maybe you were different. To say that Andrew doesn't deserve someone's "personal concern" because now he has made a lot of money with an NBA career is just ignorant. Especially insinuating that we should not be concerned about him personally because he has not helped Bonas make an NCAA appearance since he left is another ignorant statement, IMO, also. I don't really think it holds water anyway. We certainly have become much closer to making the NCAA tournament since his choice to come here than before going back to the scandal. The fact is that we SHOULD have made it, even though we didn't, with the 2015-16 slight, and the program is back to being in its best position to make it there this year than it has been since the 1999-2000 team that earned a spot in the Big Dance. Whether you think so, or not, that is partially due to Andrew's success at Bonas and Coach Schmidt's reputation at helping develop "diamonds in the rough" to NBA potential. I am guessing that the real trigger that pulled out my emotions here is what seems to be obvious jealousy towards an athlete that you and many seem to display now a days. But that soapbox highlight of mine is probably best left for another time and another forum....

Many years ago Bob Lanier hit a very rough spot in his life when his first marriage fell apart and at the same time he was traded to Milwaukee where he knew no one. Apparently he was quite depressed because he also had a bunch of little kids that he wouldn't be seeing with a whole lot of regularity. The SBU family was one of the resources that helped support Bob during those trying experiences. By this time Bob was worth millions and his financial future was assured. He also had an SBU degree in Business Administration. Despite the money and education Bob needed some help and the SBU family was there for him. Hopefully Andrew has landed on his feet and is just fine. But if not, he should know that the SBU family is always in his corner. That's all I was trying to say.
