Why would Watson consider North Dakota if the situation is so bleak? I must have missed something in the article, like not reading it entirely. I for one obviously hope he sticks around to keep the program moving upwards and onwards.

Why does everybody seem to speak in code. What exactly is administration doing wrong? It is called innuendo. No actual facts needed to influence opinion.

The Public universities have more available money and do not have to micro-manage their projects/funds, they just get more from the taxpayer when needed, and more waste and extravagence. That is stopping in many states.....less money, tuition rises, can make us more competitive....just an opinion.

The facts are clear - this administration has failed, so far, to sign the AD to a contract extension with a raise. This despite his outstanding record of accomplishments in athletic success and fundraising efforts for our athletic fields upgrade project. This extension effort needs to be completed ASAP, the last event this program needs is for SW to take another position somewhere else. We do not need that instability. Get is done - now.

twitter.com/NDSUathleticsI often wonder why sbu doesn't try to endow their top 5/7 positions..."the leslie quick endowed athletic director" or the "Thomas Marra endowed baseball coach" many schools do this...maybe sbu has tried this method ? "the wilmer alexander endowed basketball coach"

Nothing much is clear. And which facts are we looking at here? Do we know the salary history of our AD? Do we know what offers SBU made to him? Does his contract restrict him from being recruited by other institutions? Would a contract prevent him from applying for another job? It is certainly possible that SBU has not done enough to reward Watson's success. (That would be a shame, and a setback for the school if we lost him.) It is also possible that SBU has rewarded him, and, despite that, other schools have approached him. I am not one to say it's not about the money, but sometimes it is not about the money. It could be that this guy is well-paid here and simply wants a new challenge elsewhere, at a different type of school with different resources and different ambitions. We simply don't know. Seems like a few more facts would be in order before declaring that "the administration has failed."

What if Watson just wants to leave? Does that factor in? Or should we just blame the administration for letting the AD have personal thoughts and feelings? Kudos to SW for creating a great athletic and academic environment for our school, regardless of where he ends up.

So there is no retention problem here? We have an experienced, highly successful AD who lives and breathes brown and white, and this administration can not retain him in place? This is yet another example of puzzling behavior from Fort Duquesne........... but the university has used, according to my internal sources, hundreds of thousands of dollars in spare change to bring a highly paid West Coast consultant to campus, and to arrange for office space in order to massage the Hilbert/SBU merger fantasy? Again these priorities appear to be very questionable.
