Highlight of the night was when we pulled to within 5 & they showed a closeup of the little cheerleaders. This is the 3rd time a team hit 58% of their treys to win (UMES & Delaware 58.8 & Dayton 58.3%). At least Flyers have players that are good from deep unlike the other teams. Dayton had 42 points from deep to our 9. Game, Set, Match!
Agree with previous posters on the downside to focusing on looking for youssou down low. 5 of our first 9 turn overs came from attempting that. The big fella plays awfully hard but has not acquired the skill to establish position. When he does & gets the ball low he often mishandles it, walks (has improved in this) or converts at a poor .442 rate for a big man deep.
Best not to look to run your offense through him. Let him get the putbacks or garbage dunks (his only basket tonight).
Marcus was obviously off (1-6 treys) but he has really impressed me with his slashing & finishing at the rim. He finishes as well as Jon Hall. Post game Coach Schmidt said “We just couldn’t guard them.” That's for sure. Their shooting was unreal from everywhere. 56% FGs, 58% TREYS & 86% FTs. They went just 7 deep but leg fatigue sure did not show up in their hitting shots.
Surprising that, just like against UMASS we got to the line far more than them. Both teams typically get far more trips than their opponents. Tonight, with their great ball movement, I don’t think we could get close enough to the shooter in time to foul them.
Flyers without their 2 big men have shown what talented, smart, quick & good shooters can do.
Dayton shooting 58% treys is disturbing but not as much as UMES & Delaware doing the same.

As much as I hate to see the BONNIES lose, it is doesn't bother me too much if the other team is just so much better in so many aspects of the game tonight like DAYTON was tonight. Stuck with the original game plan too long of exploiting YOUSSOO down low when the BONNIES clearly lacked the ability to get the ball into him. The FLYERS bench scored 20 points to the BONNIES bench of 9 total points while the FLYERS subs shot 6 of 7 threes! The FLYERS had 20 assists to 12 turnovers while the BONNIES had 9 assists to 13 turnovers. I wonder if PIERRE ever regrets choosing DAYTON over BONAS(ha, ha, ha) DION simply could not stop him. Lets see, UMES, DELAWARE, & now DAYTON shoot the lights out against the BONNIES, hmmm, how many are going to rationalize again it just wasn't the BONNIES not, loosing to a hot shooting team. Unfortunately, it is deeper than that. Finally, would someone explain what DENZEL GREGG brings to games that is so much more than trying JALEN ADAMS in games? DENZEL is constantly out of position on both defense and offense constantly. Actually it bothers the hell out me that Dayton was so much better in so many aspects of the game. Dayton is good but the disparity in talent is not that great. Defense is effort. Schmidt needs to fix it or he needs to make some changes. Personally I would insert iakeem at the point and let Jay come off the bench. I think the experience of the two JUCO guards starting will serve us better in league play, which I think was Schmidts plan from the beginning. Iakeem is just a better pure point guard at this stage.

What the 1-3-1 defense does for bonas is allow players to anticipate passes, something they fail to do in there man to man.

I was in shock the entire game...the guards need to learn to pass the ball into the interior...You was fighting his a** for position inside, and the guards could not get the ball to him...I agree that Dayton had too many open 3s, but that was more a product of GREAT ball movement than it was poor defense...not a lot of teams IN THE NATION could have beaten the flyers tonight

I'm not real surprised....this is pretty much the same Flyer team that defeated Ohio St and Syracuse in the NCAA tourney in buffalo last year......and Stanford in the regionals. I sure do wish we had Pierre on our side......

njbonnie08.....Fantastic job tracking our contested treys & touches by YN in the paint. It quantifies exactly how bad it was as we shook our heads watching.
It sure felt like no contest in the 2nd half, as you indicated, BUT we were down only 9 with 12 mins to play in spite of their unconscious shooting & our inability to defend it. And there were some facets of the game they did not dominate & where we were not embarrassed. We had the upper hand in PIP 32 to their 26. Had 14 2nd chance points to their 5 and 31 boards to their 25. We also controlled the offensive glass 11-5. Positives but indeed, small consolation in the clinic you said Miller ran in the RC. Coach Schmidt may use some of it to instruct.

How'd the whole "their tallest player is 6'6 so Ndoye should dominate" plan work out? Yikes.
With the students gone, this was a recipe for a blowout. Dayton came into the cozy confines (and great shooting backdrop) of the RC and let it rip. Their ball movement + drive and dish had the Bonnies scrambling.

1. The RC is completely different w/out students 2. We can not make Ndoye our primary offensive option 3. NO WAY CAN GO ZONE IN THE HALF COURT AGAINST DAYTON 4. We won't win many games if our guards play like this 5. I REALLY WISH WE LANDED PIERRE Ditto

I think Coach S needs to be more creative if we happen to play Dayton (or a Dayton-like team) again. Spreading the floor and shooting the three is a matchup problem for our "D". Against this team, I would have been tempted to "junk it up" and leave YN in the paint and not guard Pollard out of the block. Limit the help "D" and overplay the man you are assigned. This would have forced them to drive, but the "dish" would be much tougher. YN only guards the bucket. Unconventional D, but Dayton is unconventional as an offense. But, the way our guards played on offense it probably wouldn't have made a difference.
I probably would have done like Coach S and played it straight against Dayton and trusting that with proper effort we could defend the three. But, there is now a body of evidence that we cannot match up against teams that spread the floor and shoot the three effectively.

Ideally it would be nice while students are away to play horrible teams like fordham, save the better teams when we can actually have "home" advantage....

Dayton not only had quicker players, with better shooting ability, but they showed a lot of basketball IQ and were very, very well coached. And that isn't even taking into account their defense which smothered us. They had an open shot literally every time down the floor and we hardly ever had an open shot. How are you going to beat that?

Congratulations to a talented and very well coached Dayton team on a well-deserved win. Bonnies have some work to do just to shore up our standing in the middle tier of the A10.

Complete Disappointment and another awful loss.
This team confuses me beyond belief and I want to see passion and a fight from this team. Honestly, I want to see someone from our bench kicked out of a game for going absolutely crazy on our team when we don't get our heads out of our rear ends.
We gotta find a way to bring life the the RC when the students are not there...its not like you are going to the movies. Make some noise already.

Cant remember the last time I saw a better executed offense. They moved the ball with precision and when they drove it to the hoop, they were excellent at finding the open guy, when they had to dish it. As awesome as their offense looked, I thought their defense was almost as good. They pressured our guards so well, our guards couldn't enter the pass to Yousou and we weren't getting looks from the three because they were in our shirts the whole night. I was really hoping to see our 1-3-1 press. It gets us energized, creates points off defense and hopefully takes 10 - 15 seconds off their possession, possibly disrupting their "precision". I think part of the issue with the defense is that pack line man to man coach likes to run. It's OK for stopping penetration but makes it difficult to close out on the three ball. I like Old Coach's idea of "junking it up" a bit!

How are you going to beat that? Recruit better players with good basketball IQ and coach them better. Yeah, I know, Olean is a very tough place to recruit to (paraphrasing Schmidt) but this philosophy of bringing in JUCO's and marginally decent players is not sound. It would appear that this staff has serious difficulty judging talent. Add to that an offense that is so complex that it causes hesitation, or overthinking, and takes away any innate athleticism that a player may have. Add to that the lack of someone on the staff that has any knowledge of teaching solid defensive fundamentals and you have a recipe for middle to lower in the pack results.
