It looks like we feel we need bigger forwards and centers in the 2017 year. Also, right now we have 3 schollies for next year, unless the SU transfer gets a second year. And with 13 players, there is always a chance of a transfer from someone who is not happy with their playing time.

French has lots of offers from all over the map. Would love him staying in NY & not at St Johns. Has an offer from Wagner but has many other higher offers to select from.
Has taken unofficials to Temple & the Billikens. A beast down low with a shot.

Jahvon Blair 6'3 Lefty PG - Toronto hilites >>> youtu.be/3ijDw3EQSzU Jahvon Blair is a Canadian-born elite student-athlete currently attending Orangeville Prep in Mono, Ontario. The 6’4″ south-paw is one of the most under the radar lead guards for the class of 2017. DraftExpress wrote of Blair, “he figures to be a very productive college player who could develop into an NBA prospect in time.” Best known for his outstanding size at his position, making clutch shot, and ball-handling, Blair is seeking to help his team, CIA Bounce, secure a spot at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam. EM: Can you describe your game for those that are not familiar and what areas you work on? JB: I’m a 6’4 pass first point guard who likes to get my teammates involved, but when I have to turn it on for my team, I can score the ball. I would say I have to work on everything to get to where I want to be. I feel that in order to become great you have to work on every part of your game to improve your overall skills. EM: Recently you were the MVP in the BioSteel All Canadian Game in your home province Ontario, can you tell us a little about that and Canada’s recent emergence on the global basketball map? JB: It was a honour to participate in the BioSteel All Canadian Game this year. This was my second time getting selected in the game as I played in it last year, so I just tried to come out and showcase my talent to everyone who was watching. I feel like I left that game on a good note as I took home the MVP. Canadian basketball is definitely on the rise and we are showing the world that we have hang with America. It’s such a blessing to be apart of something special that can also opens up doors for young Canadians. EM: Can we talk a bit about your interests as a student, what is your favorite subject? JB: My favourite subject is probably international business. EM: Shifting a bit to recruiting, can you tell us which schools have offered you? JB: I have offers from St. Bonaventure, Kent State, DePaul, and Hawaii. EM: Which schools show interest that haven’t yet offered: JB: Wake Forest, Texas Tech, UNLV, Indiana, and Virginia. The list goes on and on. EM: Any visits or team camps lined up in the near future? JB: As of right now no, I’m just focusing on finishing up school and the AAU season then I’ll think about taking visits after the summer. EM: What factors are important to you and your family when making your college decision? JB: What’s important to me and my family is the education, coaching staff, and the school’s atmosphere.

According to Verbal Committs, we have offered an astounding 26 players to date for 2017 recruiting year for 2 or possibly 3 spots. That has to be some kind of record. That is awesome. The biggest complaint I had about Schmidt in the early years was not his coaching, his strategy, or how he handles the players, but was always his seemingly late approach to recruiting. That has improved dramatically over the last 4 years or so. I think we are close to the point where we were with JB where we can start landing some of these guys that others think are above us. He has really evolved as a coach and continually improves the program step by step. I would love to see Coach Schmidt stay here for a long time (until he retires). If he does, they ought to consider a statue. Would love to see the same incremental approach to rebuilding the schools infrastructure and recruiting. We have already seen the beginning of the infrastructure improvements. Now, we need to get enrollment up to a respectable level. I know they are working hard in that area. Ultimately, I would love to see the school grow to around 4000 undergrads.

As one of those who has launched the criticism of relying on summer recruiting, I am very encouraged to see the number of offers going out for the 2017-18 team. Especially the size we're offering, though I feel Woods and Ikpeze will be a good pair at the 4/5 for next year's team. Its very encouraging to see offers out to true big men who have the physical traits needed to rebound right away. There haven't been many true bigs that Schmidt has been able to recruit. Obviously, Nicholson and Ndoye were stars. Wright turned into a great player, but was still very much a small forward. Simmons was a steady PF for the team, but was recruited as a wing.

i, too, am concerned about infrastructure and enrollment and i think we all need to be focused on these areas if bonas is gonna survive and thrive for years to come...infrastructure because we have to control costs and we have a couple of buildings on campus that i would bet are costing us a lot of money to use because they are energy-inefficient...i'm thinking plassman and dev, although there may be others...we need to have more kids coming to bonas (along with more alums supporting the school financially) in order to make these infrastructure improvements and to keep the school in existence...along those lines i hope we reach whatever enrollment number that is that would accomplish both these ends...
i think scheduling games in areas that we would like to see a greater influx of students should be part of our strategy...erie was mentioned as one possibility...i think that's a great spot for us to schedule a game, just as i think rochester is...i think toronto would be another good spot...
finally, re scheduling from a basketball viewpoint, i think we should always play canisius and niagara...i guess i'm too old to consider ub a traditional rival...i think we should play siena as it is our sister school...but i think playing the toughest schedule we can helps us prepare for a tough a-10 schedule...to me, playing tougher opponents helps make our team better in the long run...it's like growing up in a family and playing older siblings...you take your licks for a while but after a time you notice the games start getting closer and then eventually you win...i know that doesn't immediately translate into the number of wins that we'd like, but i think our best bet of getting a ncaa bid is to win the a-10 tournament and that if the quality of play improves as the season progresses, the results will take care of themselves...that may be naive, but i don't think so...

Combo-guard? I'm not sure who ever would have looked at him at any point in his time here and said combo-guard.

Combo-guard? I'm not sure who ever would have looked at him at any point in his time here and said combo-guard. Agreed. I don't think anyone ever thought Simmons was or could be a combo-guard. He didn't have the ball skills to plai 1,2 or the 3. He got hot in a h.s. All-star tournament and, I believe, won the 3 point shooting contest and maybe that started some thinking he could play away from the basket.
