Running made an interesting comment - can Coburn still be redshirted? He has only a handful of minutes. I don't think Coburn can be redshirted. It's about number of games you 'suited up', not actual playing time. Once he dressed for his 7th or 8th game (I think it's based on a certain % of a full season) he was no longer eligible for the redshirt..

Don't believe this to be the case...I believe it's actual seeing the court in a # of games. Syracuse's Christian White suited up for every game last year, yet redshirted so he had one year of eligibility left and is playing that out this season at Pace. They actually wrote an article about it - suited up for everything game but knew he wasn't going to get in the game - even garbage time - because that would've negated his redshirt status.

There is a thing called staggering minutes. If you pay any attention to the NBA its why Scotty Brooks was fired from OKC and why Golden State is hard to beat. They play some combination of there starters with the bench guys. I don't think anyone on here is calling for Schmidt to have rolled out a lineup of Coburn, Kaputo, Griffin, Ayeni, and Ikpeze all on the floor at the same time. You play Adams with Coburn and Mobley with Kaputo and use a similar frontcourt rotation to what we normally see.

Its 48 min vs 40, professionals who have 1 job, that is to be a basketball player and be in tip top shape. Also the last couple guys on an NBA bench are usually pretty good players who have proven they belong in the league. In the playoffs, those rotations get smaller and smaller in the NBA. I do agree that Schmidt should pick spots to get our guys more rest and I understand that is your point.

Anyone else catch Schmidt drop a God D@mnit in the final minutes last night? I think it was right after his timeout and Ikpeze got credited with a turnover. I'm not one to be offended by that type of language or to judge but it was surprising to hear if only because normally the place is so loud.

I just did some very hurried research so I still may have this screwed up, but I THINK I have conflated the 2 different types of 'red shirt'. One you request before the season for a kid who needs another year to 'get ready'. He can practice with the team and even dress for games but if he plays even 1 play it counts as a full year. A medical redshirt can be granted where a player is injured after he's already played some. But he cannot have played more tha a certain percentage of the season (not sure if it 20 or 30%) So, if I have it right this time, since Coburn would not be a medical red shirt, and he has played, he is ineligible for a red shirt

Somewhat OT, but the basketball coach at my high school was Ron Rothstein. Eventually wound up coaching the Heat and elsewhere in the NBA. He was a compulsive curser. In normal conversation he'd slip a curse into every sentence. During a game the rest of his vocabulary just fell away and he communicated only in profanity. When things were reall bad he would go behind the bleachers and lite a butt and cup it on the sideline while he coached. He would get suspended every year. Also taught gym. Great, fun guy. Gym shorts were not cool so we used to try to talk him into letting us play in our jeans. "Young man - no shorts....no sports."

3 Things: 1. No excuse for student section to be only 1/3rd full. What...2/3rds of the students had HW to complete? Someone mentioned they are boycotting because they were blamed for the vcu loss. Seriously!? Were they ever blamed by anyone associated with the school? I only heard supportive statements by Schmidt. And even if they were blamed at first..suck it up...letter of support and Schmidt in the Hickey today asking for support...Talk about being a snowflake. It's your duty to show up and support your school. (At least I felt like it was when I was there) This is what I'd like to know - who are the students mad at? Are they snubbing ESPN?!? Also, where can I see TK's letter from yesterday?

student section very disappointing last night. Those that showed up, thank you. Those that didn't come, I can understand their angst, they have been disrespected. With the stupid courtside seats, the media and the league running them over and ridiculous overreaction in terms of the number of security guards, I understand why the students would be pissed. But at the same time by sitting games out they are missing an entertaining basketball team, a team I'd killed to have as a student, no showing is not the right way. Show up and be proud You only have so many games you get to go to in your college career. It seems to me less these days than in the 80s, because the winter break is so long now. I wouldn't be throwing out those opportuntities if I were them.

Well we are 2-0 at home since the VCU game, maybe we are better without them there?

Would be nice to get a copy of that letter as well. Announcers seemed pretty impressed by it.

other than asking if any students on this board could post it, my only guess would be watching the game over and pausing at the moment they put it up on the screen. Don't remember what point in the game they put it up though.

Don't remember what point in the game they put it up though. It was late in the game, maybe last ten minutes. I was watching on my phone (and only listening at that point) so I don't have it DVRd.
