Bona's heads to Kingston, RI this weekend. I don't need to get into hyperbole. We all know how important this game is and so does Schmidt and Co.
Other teams have figured out how to stop Jay and Matt and I expect no less from URI. They must execute good ball movement and share the scoring load among a cast of characters that will include Stockard, Brock and maybe even Chef.
But I think the key may be LD to repeat his Fordham performance. Similar to SBU, URI is small -- often playing 4 guards on the court at once. Their main big guys are Langevine and Berry and both of them aren't anything special. LD can take them to the hoop and he and stockard can put their bodies in front of the basket on defense. Could also be a chance for Ikpeze to get some rebounds.
I'll be there in person to root on the team. Go Bonnies!

A morning start worked out well for Dem Ladies vs UMass...why not Dem Bonnies too?
Up and at em early, eat a good breakfast, pregame routine, then play. Get business done out of the way.

This game is about toughness. URI plays with Hurley's mentality: they guard you, they get in your face and they fight for everything. The game will be physical, just as it was last yr. There will be contact and we better be ready for that. Hopefully there is intensity from the tip.

Last year we went into Rhody and I think we were a little shook up with how physical their defense was and we got down in a hole early. When we faced them in the A10 tournament, we were more ready- but Rhody was playing like one of the better teams in the country at that point (should have beaten Oregon in the round of 32, who went on to the final four). We hung tough for a while, but ultimately Hassan Martin and Kuran Iverson were too much to handle inside.
This year we match up better. The key for me is starting well. In nearly all games this year that would have been classified as "should" wins- even the ones that ended up being blowout victories- we started slow, and didnt step on the gas until late in the first or even early in the second half. The other ones in which we were the underdog- Maryland, TCU, Syracuse- we started off quickly. We NEED that tomorrow. If they bury themselves in a hole early, it's going to be too tough to climb out of on the road.
Energy on defensive end from the get-go. Ball movement, spacing and PATIENCE on offense.
When we play to our potential, we can beat this team. Let's do it boys.

Spot on, hoops11. Bona has to match URI physicality and start quickly -- but also be smart about it. Can't commit bad fouls and be back on the bench as Jay was vs Fordham.
Ikpeze really needs to step up for Bona in this game. Get some boards, score, block a shot or two, make himself present. LaD cannot bear the paint problem all by himself.
Bona guards must excel in transition D bc URI counterparts can fly.
Last but foremost...don't let Hothead Hurley over-intimidate. Schmidt has to go toe to toe if need be to get some even-up calls. Bona must send a message that they will not be bullied.

Jay, Mobley, Laderien, Stockard play well they should be ok. Idris and Ikpeze need to play defense. We are at our best when idris holds their known to 40 percent or less shooting and he gets 5 plus rebounds 4 assists 3 steals or so. It’s going to take the offense of a Umass game and a defense of Maryland and Syracuse.

Crazy idea but maybe MM should take some possessions at the point. We need him to get involved and the earlier the better. Adams can always run the show if they pressure us or once MM is into the flow.

I was wondering what type of defense Hurley will use against us.
Will he employ some type of trick defense, will he use a triangle and 2? Box and 1? Or go straight up man? St Joe's played Mobley very tight, and picked up Jay well before the key.....that stopped Matt, and our offense puttered. We know that he has 4 very good guards, so if he has a concern about our frontcourt, maybe he will play us straight up.

The Bonnies are given a 25% shot at winning by TeamRankings and I guess that's fair enough given home court advantage, but these two teams are so much alike in their strengths and weaknesses. Who protects the ball better and who commits fewer fouls? That will probably be the winner. Bonnies are better shooters from deep and the free throw line, but Rhody's home crowd could be intimidating. It's a good thing this is not the Bonnies' first rodeo. Looking forward to a great game and favorable exposure to a great Bona team on ESPN.

Rhode Island’s peremiter defense is suffocating. They will be in Jay and Matt’s hip all day. The good news? Hassan Martin and Kuran Iverson are gone. There will be points to be had in the paint. This is where Griffin/Stockard shine.
Need Jay and Matt to be patient and poised. Not let the Rams frustrate them.
