Look, I'm excited we signed Kevin Hou- err, umm - Lewis Leonard. I'm also encouraged by Leonard & Houston's JC stats corresonding even though Houston played in a better conference. Additionally, I know an old JC guy who just shot 36 percent from downtown and did so in the A-10; his name is Zarryon Fereti, to whom I've already compared Leonard, and Z didn't go over so well amongst Bona faithful. However, I'm not in the business of projecting JC transfers, regardless of numbers, to join the likes of Fereti, much less AJ Hawkins and Kevin Freaking Houston.
This has nothing to do with our last staff's tendencies to bring in JC busts, either. I'm not weary because of names like Calvin, Camara, Kaba or Kovacevic. I'll reserve judgement because he's a junior college player in the first place, the type of player with whom one generally take a "wait and see" approach. That's all.

Am i right or wrong?
All this talk about Kevin Houston! Last i knew Miami wasn't a junior college and was a member of the big East
Didn't he transfer from MIami U
I think everyone is thinking of the JC transfer Isaac King?

Kevin Houston was a JUCO from Seward who transferred to Miami. He was injured at Miami and then decided to transfer to the Bonnies for his senior year.
Agree with your post Lums. Only comparing Leonard's game to Houston. Not comparing their abilities. Leonard has been a big time scorer in high school and JUCO, but as you accurately point out this does not mean he'll do the same with the Bonnies. Still it is great to see Schmidt signing a player with Leonard's credentials.

Hey! If he even comes CLOSE to contributing what Kevin Houston did in his one year at Bonas, in his first year here, imagine what we'll have to look forward to in Leonard's second year....Let's hope the comparisons are mirror-like...

Leonard is also a point guard. It will give us 3 point guards since coach will sign another point guard. Also Simmons can play point as well.

sounds like he's a 2 guard
Where did you hear he is a point guard
Anyhow, we don't need a combo guard we need a true point

Anyhow, we don't need a combo guard we need a true point That's nearly correct. We need several guards, a combo guard being one of them. As of now we have 2 guards on the roster. Leonard would make 3. At the least we need one more guard, preferably two. One of them being a point. And that's the first I heard of Leonard being a combo guard as well.

LL is a 2 guard. His A/TO ratio was .69. His 62 made treys were most in the conference. He converted 36% of them & shot .440 inside the arc. 36% of his shots were treys. His long arms make him play bigger than his 6’4”

His long arms make him play bigger than his 6’4” Not only his long arms, but Leonard's leaping ability allows him to play bigger. In Vinny's article Leonard describes himself as a wing. In article with link at bottom Ted Silary describes Leonard as a high flying wing. Like Karon Burton, Leonard was also a 2nd team Philadelphia. He was also 3rd team All State for 4A (highest class in Pennsylvania). Malcolm Eleby is mentioned under freshman game and Leonard is under sophomore game. www.tedsilary.com/monroegame04.htm

Chuck, I'm the one to blame for the Kevin Houston comparison. I remember when we were recruiting Houston, I had Russ Blake's phone number back then and he told me that Houston would be an impact player for us and it was down to us and Miami. I was devastated when he picked Miami. I'm hoping, looking at his stats, that Leonard can be the same kind of player. To me he definitely looks like a three. Since AJ left we really haven't had a guy that can break down a defense one on one. Here's hoping this is the guy

Here's hoping this is the guy 3-guard offense .... almost out of default ..... unless Thomas shifts over to the 3 .... If Leonard doesn't start it would be either that one of the underclassmen really blossomed and came on like gangbusters this off season or Leonard really disappointed. At this point both are not as likely as him grabbing this opportunity by the _____.

Let's wait for a full roster before we start making lineup predictions. I would love to have enough quality guards to run at 3 guard lineup at times. Right now, we don't.

I would love to have enough quality guards to run at 3 guard lineup at times. Right now, we don't. We'll sign at least one point guard and who knows what we'll do with our last recruit. However, I do see us playing with a three-guard offense at times next year. Having Matthews and Leonard on the wings could be very effective if we have a point that can run the show.

One positive thing that goes under the radar is that this signing shows that the current/transfer players are pretty happy with Coach Schmidt's program. It’s a good sign that the philly guys are able to convince recruits to come in. I realize JUCO players are always a crap shoot but it sounds like the kid’s got potential.

Have to credit you Mangham with a great comparison. Remember the comments during the year Kevin Houston sat out. Heard he was a man against boys during practice and then I saw it first hand at his only Midnight Madness. On a fast break Bremer threw a horrible olley-oop pass to Kevin. Eric Seigrist was in front of Houston and ready to pick off the pass. Houston being behind Seigrist jump so high that he reached down and pulled the ball out of Seigrist's hand and in one move turned and slammed the ball through the hoop. It remains the most incredible play I've seen in person.
Can you imagine the year he would have had if he did not re-injure his knee. Despite his high scoring average, his injured knee affected his game. Can only hope Leonard comes close to matching Houston's ability.
