Who are the four Bona icons belonging on our fictional version of Mt. Rushmore. For my money...
Bob Lanier Tom Stith Fred Crawford Essie Hollis
Maybe one day Andrew Nicholson can be the fourth on the list, but he obviously needs to go a long, long way before that discussion takes place.

I'd add Greg Sanders. Who says Mt. Rushmore has to be only 4 heads, anyway?

One could make arguments for a wide variety of Bonnies including Jim Baron, Eddie Donovan, J.R. Bremer, Greg Sanders, George Carter, or Earl Belcher (among others).

Without doubt Lanier & T Stith, they were the best of the best. Everyone else is a notch below, but I would take Crawford next.

I would like to suggest a separate (but equal) mountain be carved out fpr the Mt. Rushmore of Bonnies coaches.
Mike Reilly - (133-75)
Eddie Donovan - (139-59)
Larry Weise - (202-90)
Jim Satalin - (156-93)
Alternate - Eddie Melvin

Bonnies76,
It's not fair to judge a coach by his overall win and loss record at SBU. We should be able to cherry pick what seasons they should be judged upon. If not, then how else will the Paper Tiger get added?

weise has a very nice record with some very nice players..but in the end he sued SBU on a BS age discrimination deal and got paid out...loyalty ? He also put the wood to satalin when satts was the head coach and was told he couldnt host summer camps as weise wanted the primo dates and payout...

cb, I understand your concerns about Coach Weise. It was not always the act of a "Bonaventure man" , as was the phrase my father always used.
However, 202-90 is more than a "nice" record , it is the best record by a coach here, and along with the best finish by a Bona team (Final 4), I believe that Larry SHOULD be included on our mythical mountain.

I knew that bringing up Weise would bring up some discusion, he had a very big part in the development of Lanier, if you saw the big cat as a freshman you know what I mean, he was a very raw talent when he came to Bonaventure

For the coaches I would throw in postseason bids as a benchmark also, besides just relying on record alone. Sometimes you have to throw out a season or two for a coach due to rebuilding efforts. I doubt that Satalin, Weise, or Donovan would have as good a record if they came into the program at a time that Baron, Sol, or Schmidt came in. You have to look at the state of the program when the coache came in and the state of the program when the coach leaves along with any growth the program has encountered with that coach to really see how well that coach has done.
I think for Players you would have to consider Bill Butler and Whitey Martin also.
