Everyone on here is saying the same thing ... that your student section was crazy but now the section is bad. I disagree. It has not been 'crazy' this year for whatever reason, but by no means has it been bad. bad sections don't get over 600 students for a game (Fordham game excluded). Bad sections don't force players to glare and make gestures towards students. I believe the students have been average by St. Bonaventure standards, but good by college basketball standards. And as far as social statements by going to the games?? Your telling me that you didn't have 300 people in you student section that were there because it was the 'cool thing to do.' If you really believe that, than you an idiot because college students are college students...they do what will get them attention. Can we just forget complaining about petty things like the fans and worry about why Andrew Nicholson was riding pine for 7 of the final 10 minutes despite scoring 12 out of 14 points for the Bonnies in a 7 minute span?

Wait... isn't Becca going to be there? That's the funniest thing I've ever read on this board.

I would just like to say that while the student section was not great at the Fordham game, where I go to school now, they would have been far and away the best student section here all year. I go to Richmond for law school, and four of my friends were once standing in the student section, and were told to sit down because it was impolite to the people behind them. Nevertheless, to get the RC rocking again, there need to be some adjustments made. Here are some suggestions:
1. As stated in another post, pull the bleachers out to full length. I know it makes it a pain for security, but who cares? Would you rather have more students in the student section or room for a 65 year old man to stand in front of the student section?
2. Make the students' desire to go to the games greater. Publicize the games better. I remember when I went to Bonas last year, it seemed like going to the games for some of the students was a chore. Make it exciting, do a better job marketing on campus. Have some promotions. Down here in Richmond, they have their own student corner which provides free dinner to the students and has a gaming center that students play Guitar Hero. And they attract almost no students! Imagine the success of a program like that at Bonas.
3. Reestablish a winning program. While we are not fair weather fans by any stretch, there are always some who do not want to go to the games unless they feel like they are going to watch a winning team. The students over the Solomon Era were desensitized to losing because it became expected, and with all the losses Solomon endured in conference play people just began to lose interest. Would college kids rather go watch their team lose by 25 or have an extra couple of beers? This is the taste that was left in some kids' mouths from that era. That needs to change.
These are just some suggestions. I am still proud of the RC and the advantage it gives to the Bonnies. Hopefully in a couple of years it will be back in full force.

Insert "Wait... isn't Becca going to be there? Yeah, I'm definitely going to that game to be seen" excuse here. I'll tell you what, if Beccas there, I'll be there.

I watched the Fordham game on channelsurfing. From what I could see and hear the student section was virtually non-existent. What a disgrace!!! I read some of the comments from one student who said , "What do you expect for a team that has only won a few games in the past few years". What a wonderful attitude! These kids need to be educated about Bona basketball history. Yes, we are going through rough times but the students need to be there making the Reilly Center what it used to be, one of the toughest place to play. Just ask ex- Temple coach John Chaney .

Yes,standing in front of someone who is trying to watch the game is impolite.

I don't want to harp on the current student section for what some of us old timers from the glory days (sweet merciful crap, I'm only 30) would say is not living up to what it was.
But what I would point out to the current group of students is:
#1 - You want a better record and better team? It's partially in your hands.
The student section is part of the team: The crowd can play defense. The crowd kills the other team's momentum and gives it to the home team. The crowd can get players open on offense. The crowd can force turnovers.
If we want to be a good team, we can't lose at home. As much as us old guys talk about how great we were in 2000, the 2000 team still lost at at Wisconsin-Green By and lost to Fordham twice! But we went 11-2 at home.
There's no reason why the crowd can't always be awesome, regardless of how good the team is.
#2 - Along those same lines, you'd be surprised how influential you, as a crowd, can be in recruiting. No one wants to play in a quiet arena. Recruits love playing in a rowdy environment where the fans are behind them. If recruits have a good time watching a game, they're more likely to sign.
