Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but I was curious. Who do we know for certain is on next year's OOC schedule? I know Bona is going to Starkville, and of course there are Canisius and Niagara. I went back through some previous threads and there was mention of Watson possibly trying to get something going with Buffalo. Do we have a return at Princeton? Most of the rest of this year's games appear to have been the return game of two-year deals, but I could be mistaken. That sure leaves a of open dates.
Is there any other reasonably solid info floating around?

All I know is that we're done with Central Arkansas, and that's all I care about. I'd like another shot at a Big East school personally, or any other BCS conference team. We definitely need a stronger OOC schedule to earn even more respect.

I don't think SBU was in a position to have a boat load of "buy" games, so I expect to see return games at Princeton, UMES, and maybe even St. Francis (PA). Obviously, we'll be playing at Niagara, home with Canisius, and at Mississippi State. Like kepler, I hope we can add a couple more "BCS" (whatever that means) schools to our schedule. Teams like Syracuse, Providence, Penn State, Ohio State, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown, and Pittsburgh make sense to me, as these are all areas in which Coach Schmidt likes to recruit. Any combination of one or two of these schools would seem nice.

I don't think Villanova and Georgetown will play us, even as "buy" games. Pittsburgh might, I don't know, but after they backed out of the return game of a home-and-home a decade or so ago, I wouldn't give them the satisfaction (of course, I can be bought, I suppose it depends on the payout). Providence and Penn State won't give us a home-and-home, and I wouldn't want to see any other arrangement with them (the exception being an exempt game in a "pre-season" tournament). My guess is we could probably get back on the Orange's schedule, but that means either a one-off buy game or one of those two for ones with our "home" game in Rochester. The sad thing is, I don't even think the Hall would agree to a home-and-home. I'd rather try to schedule home-and-homes with a couple of CAA or MVC teams to the extent cost effective and otherwise feasible. Having one or two MAC teams on the schedule isn't so bad, either, in most years.

You are absolutely correct with the CAA and MVC observation. Teams from those conferences are a perfect fit for A-10 schools, as they'll play home-and-home while maintaining strong RPIs throughout the season.

Get BC back on the schedule (Schmidt's alma-mater).
BU was also a good fit (although this time we need to womp 'em)

BC would be nice, but does Schmidt have any direct ties left to anyone there? Skinner has basically done a Calhoun and doesn't seem to want to schedule anyone outside of a BCS conference unless he's sure he can win by a comfortable margin. He even insisted that they stop playing HC even at BC, even though for decades they were each other's biggest rival. (although I think there are some discussions about reinstituting some sort of 2 for 1, as long as the one isn't played on the Crusdaders' home court -- sound familiar?) HC hadn't even beaten them for a number of years when the series was discontinued, but they had played them close a couple of times. I think they'd be a tough get, particularly with Bona on the rise.

I would like to see a "home and home" with a big time school, even if our home is Buffalo or, given the right situation, Rochester. I would try to throw Cincinnati in the mix too, since Schmidt seems to have some recruiting contacts there. I don't want to play more than 1 "home" game a year away from the RC, but if we can keep that game up at HSBC and can get a quality team on the schedule, I think it is worth it. OUr alumni and students have shown that they come out for games like this. And if it is a Big East team, we will get even more people there.

I'd like to see us get involved with West Virginia again. Not sure if the "Huggy Bear" would like it as much as I would, though.
I agree with res that we need to get something going with the MVC, CAA, etc. Butler and Cleveland State would be nice OOC opponents as well. We play CSU in almost every other sport ... why not men's basketball too?

Seton Hall is a possibility as a home and home as the AD graduated with me from Walsh...Joe Quinlan....

Seton Hall makes perfect sense. Growing up by and being surrounded by all things Hall I see a lot of similarities between the programs. I know that holds no bearing on whether a home and home contract can be put together but it would be nice.
Hall is a small school that has some problems pulling in the big recruits due to the current "benchmark" that is set for the big east. They have a great fiery coach in Gonzalez who pushes them as hard as they need to be pushed. The kid Hazell is the truth and the program is on the up and up. . .just like us. I would love to see the bonnies tip at "The Rock" next year against a much improved Seton Hall team.
And they're fans are beyond loyal and just as die hard as most bona fans.
Operative word being most.

I like the idea of upping our opponets but, over the next two or three seasons I would like to see alot of winnable games.
I want them to get into a groove early in the season to see what works and what doesn't work, and with want players, veterans and new guys, on the floor. Next season we play four seniors and as I see it now, that is going to be a lot of talented players we are going to lose.
Coach first needs to bring back the winning tradition.

I would like to see Siena back on the schedule, and I think Vermont would be an interesting game. How long ago was it when USC played at the RC? I think it was around 95 or 96 but not sure....

I agree that Siena should be on our schedule. Arent they are sister school? There are alot of alumni in the Albany area too which would make for a nice Bona turnout. I remember going to see Bonas at Siena in 00-01 and I think that is the last time we played them. USC came to the RC early in the 99-00 season. That was the first game I ever attended as a student. I still cant believe Brian Scalabrine is in the NBA. We were all over him that night.

USC came to the Reilly Center in 1999-2000. It was one of our big OOC wins that led to an at-large bid that year.
