Well, how do all the posters who want us to move to maac feel now? Do they still think we can't compete in the A 10? Next year with the addition of a "quality" point guard and a hopefully rejunivated Mo Thomas and the addition of Simmons, House, and Conger where do they think we would finish in the maac? Don't say we lost to Niagara and Canisus and infer that we couldn't win that league going away. Coach Schmidt has us going in the right direction and we ain't looking back!

Cat I agree with you 1000%. Niagara posts 26 wins....and they will be NIT and play most of their conference games before 900 people in attendance.
Thanks to Sr Margaret & Board of trustees for not choosing that path and instead allotted quality money to release Solomon and hire Schmidt to a good contract ....we now begin to see the results !

The fact that this topic continues to be raised by people--even those who don't condone any thought of leaving the A-10--is just unbelievable to me. It should never even enter our minds that we draw any parallels or have anything to do with the MAAC. Let's be serious here and focus on the A-10 tournament.

Though Niagara and Siena are head and shoulders above the rest of the MAAC, I'll say those two teams have envious backcourts.

Just a reminder .bona has had MAJOR problems being consistently competitive in the A-10 ; there is little reason to think that will change.Nicholson wikk play at best 4 years.

Again with the small-time thoughts. I just want to know why anything in recent history has anything to do with SBU's capability of being consistently competitive in the Atlantic 10. If our administration commits to it and Coach Schmidt continues to bring in solid recruits, there's no reason to think the Bonnies can't be competing year in and year out in the A-10. Time after time, towniegrad is one of the members of this board leading the charge with all of the MAAC talk (which is all it is--unsubstantiated, rumor monger-influenced, truth-less babble). I've read this board for close to 15 years now and that is the single most offensive, stupid topic that is ever discussed. NEXT TOPIC, PLEASE!

tomangelone - for your next topic, please select one of the following: 1 - bring back a football program 2 - Baron was a traitor 3 - Baron was a savior - and was forced out by the admin 4 - JVBK was innocent - he was just a pawn in the game of life 5 - the NCAA screwed Bonas 6 - all of the above

I've read this board for close to 15 years now and that is the single most offensive, stupid topic that is ever discussed. NEXT TOPIC, PLEASE! What prevents us from being competitive year in and year out? Here's our conference ranks in the nine years before the scandal: 2000: 2nd 2001: 5th 1995: 5th 1999: 6th 2002: 6th 1998: 7th 1997: 9th** 1996: 9th 1995: 9th ** (5th in a division of 4 NCAA teams, 1-8 vs them, 5-2 vs everyone else; we were more like 7th) To me "competitive year in and year out" means "top half of the league, post-season routinely, NCAA every 4 years or so." There's nothing that stands in our way... Xavier, Dayton, Temple have better tradition, facilities and higher revenue. We have better facilities with: Duquesne, LaSalle, GW, Fordham (Of this group, only GW has been to the dance since we have). We're competing to be in the top half of the league with Saint Louis, Charlotte, Rhode Island, Richmond and St. Joe's. That's six of us for four spots. Charlotte and Saint Louis took a recruiting hit when they switched leagues. Also, the MAAC talk is the most ridiculous thing ever, because: (a) You don't leave a conference that consistently earns multiple bids and has a TV contract for one that doesn't. (b) The A-10 expanded to 14 based on the prediction that the 16-team Big East would eventually split along football lines, and the seven basketball only schools would take between 2-5 teams from UD, Xavier, Charlotte, Saint Louis, Richmond and the Horizon's Butler. If they took UD/X and had a nine-team, double-round, we're back to 12 teams, and we're basically a lock for the top 7 in that league, year in-year out.

Just a clarification, the MAAC has a deal with MSG which broadcasts numerous conference games throughout the season to the markets where the conference schools are.

A player like Nicholson and a real good team can lift a program for years. Once you hit the elite level, you have a much better chance of staying there. Look what has happened to Gonzaga after they got a good coach and some national exposure. Schools that make the commitment can be very good for many years. No reason SBU can't be one of those teams. I've always said that what others perceive as weaknesses can actually be strengths given the right efforts.

Lets not forget that the MAAC is a lower level conference than the A10. How many MAAC teams can say they have been to a final four? I know the A10 want around when we went to the final four but we have the tradition that we can consistently compete. We had a rough patch of 5 years but its over. No more MAAC talk. tonight we play in the A10 tournament. That should be the focus.
