hate to break it to you, but you can find that on any campus. I think the folks at Liberty would disagree....

Sure you can find "that" on any campus, but I think your "that" is different than other people's "that". Compare a spring weekend at St. Bonaventure to a spring weekend at some other school in a big city and you will see the difference. Imagine selling to a recruit the quietness of playing in a remote small community. That only takes you so far, but then you also want to show them that the campus is not just quiet and dull by showing them a fun spring weekend. Thats where Bona's can have an advantage over a larger school.

My point was that I visited a bunch of colleges (probably a half dozen over three days) in that trip through upstate and western NY, and even though it was beautiful weather everywhere none compared to the atmosphere of Bonas with stereos cranking out the windows, kids sitting on sofas and over-stuffed chairs in the quad with a cold draft in their hand, a smile on everyone's face, lots of activity and clearly people who liked hanging with each other. It simply was not the same at the other colleges and to this day, after attending other colleges and even teaching at a couple, none compare.

I forgot Bonas was the only school with a spring weekend. Wow, they had stereos cranking out of the windows AND they were drinking! I wonder why that never caught on at other schools.
In no way am I fan of Dayton, but Sneakers what you described is a below-average Friday afternoon in Dayton's Ghetto. I'm not saying Spring Weekend wasn't fun, but I'm naive enough to think that something like that can only happen at Bonas. Hell, I still do that with my friends during the summer and we're not in college. Imagine that!

Where did I say it was the only school with a spring weekend? I said that the atmosphere at Bonas on a beautiful spring weekend is what sold me on going to the school when I a 17 year old high school senior. It had an atmosphere that I found to be more fun than the other schools I visited. It is a beautiful campus with friendly students and had a great atmosphere. I think it is a wonderful selling point to bring recruits there on spring weekend as it is a special place. Where did I mention Dayton? Whether or not Dayton has a fun atmosphere seems irrelevant to what I posted. It's Cinco de Mayo remus. I think a margarita or two or three might help you lighten up a little (if you aren't too busy cranking stereos out your window and drinking kegs on you lawn). I'll be having mine shortly.

Sneakers,
I had a similar experience when visiting Bonas and other schools. And, some of my best memories of Bonas were of Spring weekends outdoors, basketball games, floor parties and cocktail parties, intramural sports, friends, and the fact that everyone said hello when you passed them walking across campus, whether you really knew them or not. Yes, I did learn a thing or two while there, but the friendly atmosphere was top notch. It sold me. Why Dayton fans are concerned with that, I am not sure.

bonaman, do you care about Liberty University? If not then please pass along the same sentiment to portpasses. He was the one who tossed a name out there.
Sneakers, you never said SBU was the only school with a spring weekend. Rather I was just pointing out that SBU isn't the only campus that music blasting out of windows and students drinking together enjoying the weather. I merely pointed that out to the other blowhards and was criticized.

Part of the difference between Bonas and other universities is the size of campus compared to # of students. For instance: Dayton has over 7100 undergrads compared to 2000 at Bonas. Bona's campus is 500 acres compared to Dayton's 259. But, yes just about every college in the universe holds some sort of spring weekend festivities. One thing that can seperate one college from another on this topic is the campus around the festivities.
