I just got an email from Sr. Margaret and CNN is sending Anderson Cooper to campus to look into the phenomenon that is known as college kids drinking outside while listening to music and having a good time.
Apparently this special event only takes place at SBU one weekend a year, while other schools do this on a regular basis. Should be a riveting report, so stay tuned...

Ok, now you just negated a special event that most schools hold and replaced your argument with everyday living on college campuses. Except you kept Bona's under the once a semester event and compared it with everyday college life. College kids drinking outside while listening to music and having a good time happens all the time at Bonas and every other college in the country. The special event of "spring weekend" happens once a year and other colleges also do the same type of events, probably not named the same thing. Alfred State I believe calls it hot dog day I believe.
The same type of recruiting tactics take place during the season. Bring a recruit in for a game against nationally ranked Xavier in front of a full house or for a game against Central Conn. State

The kid I saw sure looked like Renaldo Dixon. 6-9 PF that played at Zion Lutheran in Deerfield Beach, Fl. Another name that has been mentioned is Dwight Powell, I don't believe it was him. There was not another "big" that I saw... Another kid was there hanging with Relph, about 6-3 and stocky built. Also, Ahmad Smith was in playing pick-up with the team, he's still got game... As I noted earlier, there was another kid with in, hanging with Relph. The Bevel board is now saying it could have been Deshawn Mitchell, a UNLV transfer. Good job by those guys over yonder... Would fit Schmidt's system... unlvrebels.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/mitchell_deshawn00.htmlrebelnation.lvrj.com/2009/04/27/runnin-rebels-give-deshawn-mitchell-his-release"High-flying swingman DeShawn Mitchell, a fan favorite for his highlight-reel dunks and shot blocks, was granted his release by UNLV head basketball coach Lon Kruger this morning..." Maybe they can package Mithcell with another Jersey transfer?

I believe DESHAWN has 3 years of eligibility left and put up impressive numbers in prep school, OAK HILL I think.

BEVEL BOARD, I didn't see that someone posted this same info on your board until after I posted it and then visited your board. I really am impressed with the up to the moment info on recruits on your board and will give you all the credit if I ever use info from it.

Mitchell, 6'5"/210 had impressive #s at Oak Hill (a 31-2 team in 06- 07), 24ppg, 10rpg, 7 blocks a game. Then at Monmouth Academy in 07-08 he had 24ppg, 8rpg & 4apg. Was a First Team All Prep at Monmouth. Played only 5mpg in 21 games at UNLV last season shooting 14/28 & 7 blocks. Was a crowd pleaser due to his high flying dunks.

If DeShawn had these stats at Oak Hill he would be skipping college and entering the NBA. According to Max Prep DeShawn played in 2 games at Oak Hill and scored 6 points (link at the bottom). According to the stats from Max Prep the stars were Nolan Smith (who is at Duke) Alex Legion (at Kentucky) and Brandon Jennings who is playing professionally in Europe. Max Preps has Nolan Smith as the leading scorer of Oak Hill at 21.5 ppg. Stats from ESPN would at least make DeShawn a top 100 recruit. Instead he was an unheralded recruit for UNLV, who only received scholarship offers from UNLV and Iona, according to interesting article with link at bottom. Do believe DeShawn's extreme athleticism is the type of player Schmidt wants for his offense. From all reports, DeShawn is an incredible player in transition and has incredible potential. He just needs to develop a shot. At 46.2% he had the worst free throw shooting percentage on the UNLV team. www.maxpreps.com/virginia/basketball/oak-hill-academy-(mouth-of-wilson)/stats.aspx?schoolid=f80db136-2ddf-4840-8835-c02f4785634d&ssid=a00a56fa-aab7-4640-8640-53e948da806a&urpath=,local,team www.lvrj.com/sports/29665119.html

DeShawn looks like a raw prototype version of Terrence Durham.

The stats I posted on Mitchell came from UNLV's official Athletic web site. Here is the copied & pasted excert from the site on his high school career: 2 seasons at Oak Hill & one season at Monmouth Academy. His 7 blocks a game as a senior at Oak Hill is incredible for a 6'5" player. I wouldn't read too much into his FT% because he went 6-13 which is a tiny sample to draw firm conclusions from. HIGH SCHOOL Attended Monmouth Academy in Howell, N.J., in 2007-08 ... averaged 24.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists ... a 2007 graduate of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. ... in 2006-07 as a senior he averaged 24.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 7.0 blocks per game ... as a junior at Oak Hill, he averaged 21.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks ... as a senior at Oak Hill, the Warriors turned in a 31-2 record and were 28-3 his junior season ... coached by Scott Hoagland at Oak Hill, where he lettered two seasons ... was first team all-prep at Monmouth

How many scholorships are still in Schmidt's pocket? Looks like he's keeping one over the summer.
