And visits do get canceled.... A canceled visit because they commit to a place they just visited............ Surprised there is not any interest from the hints given by JH and JMP. Here is another, word is Williams and Carter had a great visit at Bonas. Here is a quote from Carter just prior to visiting Bonas: "I honestly don't know, but if I'm comfortable with a school I will commit right then and there," stated Eli, when asked when he plans to make his pledge. What are the odds he goes to school with Derrick Williams '10, his high school and AAU teammate? "I don't know, but we have talked about going to school together, so you never know." By the way Derrick Williams received offers from Seton Hall and Virgina (as reported by both Rivals and Recruitrecon). Check out some of the scouting reports on Williams at Recruitrecon, such as "he’s an animal on the boards and grabs everything in site." Eli Carter is a pretty good player himself being nationally ranked as a top 175 player, according to Northstar. Unfortunately we will have to wait until the early signing period in 7 weeks, to find out if JH and JMP's hints are accurate. blog.northstarbball.com/search.aspx?q=st.%20bonaventure&sc=tconcom&dt=1m&al=www.recruitrecon.com/?option=com_content&task=view&id=3180&Itemid=110

Agree with you CHUCK, why the lack of interest? Beautiful weather? BILLS game? This was a HUGE visit by 2 recruits we could really use. I like that the staff is trying to address 2 of our biggest needs with quality talent.

ST. ANTHONY’S PAIR TAKING VISITS
Over at St. Anthony in Jersey City, senior guard Elijah Carter and senior forward Derrick Williams are busy planning and taking visits.
La Salle head coach Dr. John Giannini will visit both players today (Wednesday) during an open gym.
Both players went to St. Bonaventure this past weekend and the 6-7 Williams visited Richmond the weekend before.
Williams has also visited St. Joe’s and Temple unofficially.
Fordham, George Mason and Penn State are also involved with Williams.
The 6-2 Carter will also have a home visit Sept. 30 with Robert Morris coach Mike Rice.
BU and Rider are also trying to get involved with Carter.

According to gothamhoops.com a scouting service for NYC and LI High School Basketball Players the visit with Derrick Williams was not so good. The title of the article is Williams not feeling it on Bona visit. Very disappointing to hear this news. All reports had the visit going extremely well. Seems like things that were said to the coaches does not match up to what is said in the article.

WOW, this is concerning. I really would like the WILLIAMS/CARTER package deal. This is why I get nervous when recruits don't verbal before leaving campus. It just seems at times like they try to find excuses for some reason. Hopefully SBU remains high on DERRICK's choices and ELI really wants to come here and can talk DERRICK into following him here.

from the colleges showing interest in the players, Williams is hearing from higher level of programs than Carter. While the two may talk about playing together, I doubt Williams will let Carter's ability limit his choices (based on the schools showing interest). So I think an interesting question is would we be happy with just Carter? Also, looking at this roster, is this possibly the tallest roster we have ever had? Remember when Cheeks was our starting center - he would maybe be the 7th tallest person on this team (although his heart and effort made him play alot bigger)

thanks for posting the link to the article, I don't think we are out of it yet - sounds like a kid talking offhanded to a reporter, not knowing exactly what he wants (and maybe wanting to see if the grass is greener somewhere else) - he wasn't sure if the coaches wanted him, but was offered a scholarship? WOuld be curious to hear how he looked in the gym at Bonas - maybe he is trying to figure out how much floor time he might see, coming in as a frosh and if Brett and House continue to develop (plus did you notice he has lost an inch in height?)

I find the article content confusing and somewhat contradicting...
Funny it mentions the social aspect of SBU, where the Bevel board claims that the drinking and bedding co-eds is the strength of our college experience
but then when you look at Eli Carter's twitter entries, he speaks of being serious, goals, studying, maturity, etc...
I am all for the fun of the college experience and had plenty of it during my 4-years but it seems that getting the Bob Hurley coached players and the Sheehey type players will be pretty tough based on the above.

Williams Not “Feeling” St. Bona Visit
September 22nd, 2009
This past week, St. Anthony (NJ) power forward, Derrick Williams took a official visit to St. Bonaventure University in St. Bonaventure, NY.
St. Bona is an Atlantic-10 conference program who finished in 11th place last season with a 15-15 (6-10) record.
Williams, a 6′6″ 250 lbs. Staten Island, NY native had many things to say about his recent visit. Not including many positive statements.
After saying “the social aspect of the school [is] the only problem I have,” Williams continued to speak the truth about his feelings toward the St. Bona experience.
The aggressive big-man said the relationship with the coaches is good, but also stated, “St. Bonnies is going to always find and have good players, I don’t think they really want me.”
After asking why the rising senior felt “unwanted” by the A-10 school, Williams responded by saying “They offered me but I can’t as of now see myself there.”
“I didn’t enjoy the visit there, everything that was presented to me was great, wasn’t really feeling it though,” says Williams.
Strong words spoken by an even stronger man and basketball player.
Although the visit didn’t go as Williams had hoped, the Bonnies are still on the list of schools the NY native is considering.
Along with St. Bona, Richmond and Penn State are two more scheduled visits.
*Penn State is currently scheduled for Nov. 17th but is “still up in the air”

bona is not the most diverse place in the world ,and the surrounding area doesn't offer much for kids with an urban background and sensibility.

bona is not the most diverse place in the world ,and the surrounding area doesn't offer much for kids with an urban background and sensibility. I disagree. Bona offers plenty (great education, wonderful Franciscan caring community, beautiful campus and area, bmoc status for ballplayers) for any kid, including those "with an urban background and sensibility". I was a Bronx kid and I loved the school. My parents wanted to get me away from the City. A lot of recruits parents will feel the same way. If a kid wants to go to a school in an urban area, Bonas is not the place for him. Maybe Williams wants to attend a school with a 'city' campus, like St. John's (yuch !) If that's the case, then Bonas doesn't fit the bill.

I taught at a "city" campus. I taught in a big tower at a Big East School, which will remain nameless, within walking distance of Duquesne. A "city" campus offers the student the opportunity to listen to his/her teacher with tractor trailors and car horns making it almost impossible to listen. Of course Bonas has the trains, but they don't run that often and don't have to start up after waiting for a red light to turn green. So much for the "city" campus experience.

haven't been around lately? We've got trains and train noise that'll compare with anywhere.
