According to NORTHSTARBBALL, ELI CARTER of St. Anthony's, NORTHSTAR considers a high A10 player and a top 175 recruit will be on campus Thursday. ELI:"I've visited VIRGINIA & RICHMOND unofficially, but neither are on my list, and I'm taking an official visit Thursday to ST. BONAVENTURE...I don't have any other visits set up as of today." .

BTW, I believe his teammate at ST. ANTHONY's DERRICK WILLIAMS will also be visiting this weekend. That would be some coup if we could land both these players!

Looks like Carter and Williams were a package deal when they transferred into St. Anthony's in 2008. Both are drawing interest from Big East and ACC schools. Below is an article about Virginia's recruitment of the two.
By Whitey Reid
Published: June 5, 2009
In the few months that new Virginia basketball coach Tony Bennett and his staff have been on the job, a lot of time has been spent on following up with players who had been recruited during the Dave Leitao regime.
In some cases, players are no longer interested in Virginia. In other cases, the staff is no longer interested in recruits.
Then there are the cases that remain up in the air.
Derrick Williams, a power forward from prestigious St. Anthony’s High (Jersey City, N.J.), is one such case.
Williams, who has offers from Seton Hall and Fordham but has yet to receive one from Virginia’s new staff, will be in Charlottesville on an unofficial visit this weekend.
“He’s built like a defensive end,” said Eric Harrield, Williams’ AAU coach and freshman coach at St. Anthony’s. “He’s one of the most powerful kids I’ve ever seen. He’s really solid and strong on the defensive end, but also agile and can shoot out to 18 feet.
“He’s a kid who if you play behind him, you might as well say, ‘That’s two points’ or just send him to the foul line. … He’s progressed very nicely.”
If Bennett and staff deem Williams a good fit for the system, they might have an in since Harrield is a Virginia alum. Harrield (class of 1994) was going to be in town for his reunion this weekend and he thought it would be a good opportunity to give Williams and Eli Carter, a point guard on his team, a look at the school.
At just 6-foot-7, Williams is considered a bit undersized for an ACC power forward. However, he might make up for it with his strength and, having played under the legendary Bob Hurley at St. Anthony’s, his basketball I.Q.
“The thing is when you get a kid from coach Hurley, you know you’re going to be getting a kid who knows how to play the game the right way and who will always give you that work ethic,” Harrield said. “Coming in [to high school], Derrick already had a great work ethic, but combine that with the basketball knowledge he’s receiving. … The sky’s the limit for a kid like Derrick.”
Williams has also drawn interest from Miami, Virginia Tech, Providence, St. John’s and Marquette.

Carter and Williams are scheduled to visit this weekend. According to Bona staff Williams has it down to Richmond and us. Things could become real interesting if Maurice Jones verbals and both of these St.Anthony kids want to come. Mark and his staff are doing an incredible job. On the scheduling front it appears we could be playing Savannah St. at home and a possible road game with a D2 school , perhaps Lemoyne or someone similar. I believe we have some connection/ties with someone on the staff at Lemoyne...........

D2 game? Road? Lemoyne? 3 bad choices that can only hurt us. What a win would bring isn't the grief a loss could create..............

BONAVENTURE...I don't have any other visits set up as of today." . there as alot of additional information that made for interesting reading from: blog.northstarbball.com/When you talk about a player of late who has benefited from playing under Bob Hurley at St. Anthony's, Eli Carter is one of the first ballers that comes to mind. Entering the Jersey City school for his junior year as a solid player, but nothing overly special, Carter will be going into his senior year as one of the elite players in the Garden State, a top 175 player in the nation in my opinion, a high A-10 player, and a Top 20 All-Star at The Hoop Group Elite Camp. The 6'1 point guard had told me in mid-July that Richmond was his leader, but that is no longer the case, not even close. "No, they are off the list," stated Carter, adding, "I don't know his name, but a guard committed there, that's why they're off my list." That player is 6'1 combo guard Cedrick Lindsay '10 of Gonzaga (DC), who was ranked #122 in Northstar Basketball's Class of 2010 Terrific 125. Asked what his reaction was to hearing of Lindsay's commitment to the Spiders, Eli said, "It was a little disappointing because it was one of the many schools I was considering." So what schools are on Carter's list? "In no order, St. Bonaventure, La Salle, Boston University, Manhattan, Robert Morris, [and] Rider have offered. Notre Dame, Providence, and Rutgers are showing interest." As of now, Carter does not have any favorites. "No, I'm wide open." Regarding visits, Carter is still in the early stages. "I've visited Virginia and Richmond unofficially, but neither are on my list, and I'm taking an official visit to St. Bonaventure on Thursday. . . . I don't have any other visits set up as of today" When I inquired why UVA is not under consideration, Carter commented, "They just stopped recruiting me, so I took them off [my list]." "I honestly don't know, but if I'm comfortable with a school I will commit right then and there," stated Eli, when asked when he plans to make his pledge. What are the odds he goes to school with Derrick Williams '10, his high school and AAU teammate? "I don't know, but we have talked about going to school together, so you never know." Carter is not as optimistic about the chances he will head to school with his half brother Khalil Murphy '10, who is doing a PG year at Fishburne Military Academy (VA). "[We have] not really talked about it because we have different schools recruiting us, so we never talked about that." Carter thinks that he can be a part of something big this year at St. Anthony's before heading off to college, as he listed some big things when asked what the Friars can accomplish in 2009-10. "State champs and national champs, if we keep working hard and play as a team."

If Williams commits does that mean the hand writing is on the wall for either House or DCook to leave the program after next year? Would House consider going back to a walkon status? If both MJones and ECarter want to come who would we choose if we had to? Does ECarter's and DWilliams come as a package deal? Is there room for both on our roster? Would one do a post grad year? walkon? redshirt? Would another on the current roster be a candidate to leave? At this point, any combination of the 3 would be pretty sweet!

It is unlikely that both Carter and Jones would agree to come. Each is a relatively high profile PG and would likely want to be the only highly regarded PG in his class.
I've never seen either play, so I can't really comment on who I would rather see in a Bonne's uniform. However, I do like what I hear about Jones as we have had great success with small lightening quick guards.

Carter is listed as a combo guard on some of the recruiting sites. What a coup if we have scholarship room and can sign Jones, Carter and Williams in the fall. It seems like we have been scrounging deep into the spring and summer for recruits for 30 years. To be done recruiting in the fall, with the recruits that were targeted?! WOW!!!!

We might have a point guard by the end of the week... Hearing similar positive rumors. Even if it is true and Bonnies receive a verbal, Schmidt will have to wait 2 long months before it becomes official. Anyone else remember the name Jermaine Clarke? He backed out of a verbal he gave Baron. First we have Brett signing with the Bonnies and now there are visits from players being recruited by BCS schools. Recently, the quality of recruits have really picked up. Hopefully Schmidt can sign a couple of these players.

We likely have two scholarships available, if we are not holding one for Agee. I believe that Houseknecht is on scholarship, although I have never seen this confirmed except for where we read that Schmidt was keeping one scholarship in his pocket and that went to Roseboro to fill out the 13 ships this year. Of course, the reality is there is always someone who leaves the program due to discipline, academics, transferring closer to home, playing time, etc.
My guess is that we pull in Derrick Williams and Eli Carter as a package deal. From what I've read online, I'd prefer Jones over Carter because he sounds like more of a point guard, but it sounds like Carter is willing to verbal now for the right situation and we would take the sure thing now over waiting for Jones. Speaking of which, does anyone know how his visit went?
It looks like more quality players want to come here than we have scholarships to available. These are good problems to have!

I remember Jermaine. He was a pretty highly touted recruit coming out of Jersey (I believe) who ended up at Fairfield (I believe) or some other MAAC school and didn't have that great of a career.

With Williams down to Richmond and Bona's, the Spiders must be kicking themselves for taking Lindsey, thus eliminating themselves from the Eli Carter sweepstakes. Since we're already finalists for Williams, we'd obviously take Carter over Jones as a means of locking up Williams. This would be huge. I remember Jermaine. He was a pretty highly touted recruit coming out of Jersey (I believe) who ended up at Fairfield (I believe) or some other MAAC school and didn't have that great of a career. Yes, Clarke had a pretty average career at Fairfield.
