Bonnies currently have 13 scholarship players and Agee. Graduate 2 players (Hall and Matthews) which leaves team with only 2 scholarships for next year and one is probably going to Agee. Word is Agee looks really good during scrimmages. It will be interesting to see how Schmidt uses his last 2 scholarships or is it just 1 with Agee taking one?

Each year player(s) leave the program for various reasons so we won't get tied up in exact number of available rides - all indicators now are that we are looking to bring in 3 newcomers - the staff will figure out how that fits. Having said that - do we consider all 3 kids? Eli Carter is 6'0 and has a nice outside shot - Schmidts style of offense could allow both Carter and Jones to be on the floor at the same time. Nicholson & Roseboro & 6'6 255lb Derrick Williams would be a top A10 frontcourt. We are a rising team in the A10 and kids want to be a part of it in some way.

The hidden beauty of these two players from the vaunted St. Anthony's program is that they are immersed in strong fundamentals of the game and daily lessons to be good citizens by coach Hurley.
Further, they have experience playing against the top competition in the country, so excellent opposing players are not going to scare these kids as they have constantly played that top ten national schedule, and seen the very best many times before.

We'll see about Carter as a Brown Indian? Would be nice to run a small team on the floor w/ Agee, Malcom, Ogo, Carter and Simmons.
Next years team w/ 2 Sr. Guards leaving the program at the end of the season and 2 Fr. Guards learning the A-10 ropes with quality playing time will be a HUGE bonus for the SBU program. So much so, sell outs at the RC with SOR will be the norm.

BJIF you are so correct. To get Hurley coached kids is a major positive as you stated. Equally important is that we are now on the radar for future Hurley kids. I hope we get these kids (even though I also love the Greenesque kid from Michigan).

When is the next signing period?
Love to get as many Hurley-coached kids as possible, and that includes his son who's coaching at St Benedicts in Newark; as stated above, we know they play the elite programs in the country, so used to playing against top competition, as well as being fundamentally sound.

Not saying this will happen, but another possible scholarship could materialize if Leonard graduates on time and decides to move on to a pro career in Europe or into the workforce. I think Mo Young went this route a few years back. He had a year left of eligibility, but chose not to stay beyond graduation.
Transfer is probably the most likely scenario to free up the needed scholarship if we sign more than one player in the early period.

Also agree most likely at least one will become available, but we can't count on it, unless Schmidt knows something he is not sharing. GoPadres has a very likely scenario with Lewis choosing to enter the professional world instead of playing another year of college basketball. As it stands now, there are technically only 2 scholarships available and Agee is expecting one of them.

Would be nice to run a small team on the floor w/ Agee, Malcom, Ogo, Carter and Simmons. Good call. I'd hate to score any points or grab any rebounds. Speaking of St. Anthony's, have we signed any Hurley players other than Robert Cheeks? While I suppose it's possible, I'd be surprised if Leonard graduated early. He's slated to play a big part on our team in 2010-11 as probably our best scorer out of our three will-be seniors, and if he wants to play basketball professionally, he'll probably have to play his senior year. I caught up with an ESPN college basketball scout from LA last week who says Leonard can definitely score the rock and is a nice kid, to boot.
