Word is Maurice's coach is trying to convince him to hold out on committing to Bonas in the hopes of finding a "better" offer. Hopefully this coach who is clearly only telling him this so that his coaching resume looks better won't have an impact on this young man's decision.

Hopefully this coach who is clearly only telling him this so that his coaching resume looks better won't have an impact on this young man's decision. I've heard the same. Looks like Maurice's coach is going to be happy. Check out the following from BOTB: Maurice Jones, a 5'7 PG from Saginaw, MI/Arthur Hill got his first high major offer today as USC offered him tonight. Jones will take a official visit this week to USC. Kevin O'Neil of USC came to watch Jones in an open gym today in Saginaw. Jones is the #2 PG in Michigan by BOTB, and a Top 5 player in Michigan's 2010 class. Jones is also looking at St. Bonaventure and Duquesne. botbscouting.blogspot.com/

I guess it just comes down to either being a number at a scandal-ridden school or making an impact at a school that can really use his abilities. We'll just have to wait and see.

This is the nasty part of the business. I hope someone has the foresight to make sure the young man knows that the investigative shoe has not yet dropped on the violations and infringements of the USC athletic program.
They have managed thus far to stay one step ahead of the NCAA, but what I hear and have read, is that a full investigation involving illegal fringe benefits,or if you prefer cash to athletes, is inevitable.
If that shoe drops, what a great decision that will be by the media craving high school coach to send your best player to a program where sanctions could be forthcoming. I guess the "coach" may have forgotten to mention that to Maurice.

Great points you guys, lets hope for Maurice's sake, he has the opportuntiy to hear and understand these things in order to make the best decision for himself, i sure hope he chooses to further his education here at Bona's, i talked to a guy from northern Indiana last night who has seen him play and he claims Maurice could be REALLY good in the right situation.

I mean i understand USC has some major things waiting in the wings but you can't fault a kid who is up until now, was only getting looked at my mid-majors. USC is a great school still and would be great for him.

These are the type of "Hurley coached kids" we want???
From ESPN.com on Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor, a grad of St. Anthony's:
"On his Facebook page, Taylor admitted he threw a punch.
"I got a dislocated finger ... from throwing a punch, so don't let the newspaper gas ya all up, aite," he posted after midnight, according to The Kansas City Star.
Taylor's earlier posts indicated there may have been some tension among the athletes on campus. On Tuesday morning he wrote, "keep my name out ya mouth for you get smacked in it." A half-hour later, a posting read, "never get outta character ... I'm always a G about it."
Later that afternoon, Taylor posted, "n-----s be muggin me ... you know I'm mugging back." The altercation occurred about two-and-a-half hours later, the Journal-World reported.
Kansas, the prohibitive preseason No. 1 team, is scheduled to begin its season on Oct. 16 with "Late Night at the Phog," its annual opening practice. The Jayhawks' first game is Nov. 13."

Port, I actually met these kids and they make the friars here seem rowdy. There are always exceptions to the rule but I can assure you these guys aren't it.

I don't doubt it kep...my post was tongue-in-cheek due to the timing of Taylor's actions and the recent posts preaching Hurley's virtues. "A Miracle at St. Anthony's" is actually one of my favorite books and I'm would love to attract more kids from the program.

This thread is getting off topic. Turning into a Jones is better than Carter thread. I hope Carter is not reading these posts, or he will be as turned off as D Williams apparently was. Come on guys.

Derrick Williams read this board? I don't think I buy that.

I bet a lot of recruits read these types of boards, or at least people who know the recruits read them (parents, siblings, friends). It is a very good source of information about the school and fan base they are considering playing for over the next four years.
