Does coach have him back next year? Do not see much upside for this player, sorry to say. Team would be better served by addition through subtration. Biggest bust of the season considering high expectations I had for him.

Nice positive spin on a 30 plus win dd. I have always wondered where expectations for players who have not played one minute in regulation come from. I think the team chemistry is solid and each kid is contributing in some way to keep the momentum going. Maybe Leonard is Schmidts secret weapon to be unveiled in the Syracuse game.

You dont just lead the California Foothill League for nothing. He started and played a lot of minutes against some pretty good guys. Bottom line is that he ( Lewis ) needs to find a way into Coach Schmit' s rotation in order to help contribute to the team success.

Any one who saw the bricks that he put up yesterday now realizes that he won't be the scoring wonder that we all thought he could be. Sure he was a scorer in the Cali JUCO, but just look closer at his stats. He put up a ton of shots in a league that was offensively focused, so his numbers will be a bit inflated.
I'm not going to rag on him, just giving a context to his resume. I'd imagine it'd be tough for any player to find a real rhythm when you play for about two minutes a game. I can't in good faith say that he'll get his chance simply because he hasn't shown that he can stay in front of his man on defense.

I have always wondered where expectations for players who have not played one minute in regulation come from. Expectations came from comments made by Schmidt. On September 12th the following comment was made in the OTH, "another big-time scorer is exactly what St. Bonaventure needs. Schmidt thinks he’s got that guy in Leonard." Prior to the start of the season, Schmidt made other similar comments in regards to Lewis Leonard. With Schmidt's comments, rumors of Leonard "scoring in bunches" during practices and his offensive performance in the open scrimmage had me expecting Leonard to be one of the stars of the team. Following reasons I still believe Leonard is a talented offensive player: 1. Open scrimmages, Leonard was one of 3 players (with Malcolm and Conger) to be on the winning team for all 3 games and only the last game was competitive. By a large amount Leonard led his team in scoring for all 3 games. Offensively Leonard was the complete package during these games. He showed he could score from the perimeter, off drives and on put backs. 2. In his brief playing time, Leonard has been able to create high percentage shots for himself. Off the dribble he has the ability to beat his man to the hoop. Granted he is doing this against the other team's bench players, but still it is impressive. Lewis hasn't been able to finish off his drives, which have been easy shots that have been bouncing off the rim. Have to believe he is pressing to prove himself in limited playing time. The concern with Leonard is his defense. Guess should have paid more attention to the numerous times Schmidt spoke directly to him about his defense during the open scrimmage games. During regular season games, he can not stay in front of his man. Put it simply, his man defense has been poor. Unfortunately, do not see his defense improving. www.oleantimesherald.com/articles/2009/09/13/sports/doc4aab0b3097072938832099.txt

Too bad. We desperately need someone else to step up from the outside, but I don't think he's quick enough to play in a zone defense.

This staff recruited Leonard, they had to have seen something in his play. My question for those in the know is, what changed? He has practiced all last season with the team, why is he not ready for prime time? So I get back to my original question,if he sees limited time this season , How would he be any different next season? I would much rather use the ship for a 4 year player. I,m sorry if I'm hurting someones feelings but Mr. Leonard is responsible for his own situation.

There were rumors of Leonard struggling with defense. Interesting enough, shortly after signing with the Bonnies, sbuSTUDent2005 provided a video on this board of Lewis Leonard. Stud states he thought Leonard was "really lolly-gagging it." Link to thread is below. I believe Leonard does not see playing time, because of his defense and until this changes he will remain on the bench. bonabandwagon.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=4094&page=4

With Andrew entering his last 2 years, I believe the staff is going to find every way it can to bring in players they believe can upgrade the talent level. Of course that is the case every year. But I think the window of opportunity Andrew presents to elevate the program adds real urgency.

Was Lewis redshirted last year? If not how many seasons does he have with us?
Got to agree with So Cal Kid - the Dutchie Llama the Mohatma Dutchie himself, Lewis needs to figure it out and just do it.

I still see nothing in the video that points out bad D on LL’s part. The final trey shot he is in the shooter’s face causing an air ball. However I do believe that his defense is not up to Mark’s standard and is pressing offensively in the limited floor time he has seen. Offensively he looked his worst against Savannah State. I had high hopes for him & still won’t give up on his ability to contribute. His 07-08 season had him scoring 25ppg on 44% shooting. Was 70% from the stripe. I’m sure sitting out last season was not easy. He seems like a real good kid who I hope can turn it around. .

Leonard is more of a two guard while Agee is a pretty pure point guard. I personally expect him to do well once he gets the chance though, he'll definitely be competing for playing time with Malcolm and Ogo next season.

When we offer a scholarship aren't we making a commitment to the kid? Talk of running him off the team really seems unseemly and possibly illegal. This is not the NBA where you cut people. If players violate rules and don't make progress in academics then they can be removed. I don't think because a bunch of internet superstars don't like a player that he should be removed from the squad. That being said I wouldn't be surprised to see Leonard contribute at some point.
