To answer a question someone asked: yes - flagrant fouls are reviewable using instant replay. NCAA Rule Book Section 13. Games with Replay/Television Equipment Art 2. Officials may use such available equipment only in the following situations: d. (Men) A determination if a flagrant foul occurred. When it is determined that a flagrant foul was not committed, no other penalty may be assessed. Also, Rule 10-13-e-a: Any flagrant personal foul shall result in ejection of the offender. Here's the link: go to page 51 - 53; and page 125 www.ncaapublications.com/Uploads/PDF/Basketball_Rules_2008-09fb2fc956-7592-4877-993e-dae20a6f90ed.pdf

Schmidt said Andrew made a mistake. If you want to 2nd guess the coach, go ahead. I still say win with class- lose with class.

So we are supposed to feel sorry for Rautins because he got hit with some phantom elbow a few plays before? I doubt very much that his yelling was simply to pump up his own team. What a piece of crap.

what a freaken joke. im so heatedddd right now after reading that garbage. This is why I hate Cuse fans. Niether coach saw it and neither did any of the other players as stated in the blog. I'm sure something did happen, but even the officals told our bench what they thought happened. Rautins did the same thing in the Florida game. My guess is it wasn't close fisted. Rautins whined like his coach and being home the officals acted. I'm sure Andrew learned his lesson. The comments on the blog are terrible. Suspend him 10 games?? Oh like their player who hit a woman last year and was suspend like 3 games, all cupcakes. This was the most ignorant of them though... "says something about the individual. Can't cope with percieved pressure, not physical game pressure but perceived mental, a dangerous player and not from ability. We will read more about him in a few years"

That was the one I found most ignorant, too, in the true meaning of the word.......These people have no idea what they're talking about. Most didn't see the play and are portraying Andrew as a dumb thug. That is the definition of ignorance.
I do think that Andrew lost his head, though, and did use a closed fist. I also think it'll be the last time it happens.......I know that Andy Rautins is still hurting today. I hope that it doesn't have any lasting effects on either of the Andys.

OK I'm watching the encore on SNY right now and I can't tell you how furious I am that the refs judged that an intentional/flagrant foul. This was the first time I saw any sort of replay, and I previously mentioned that I thought it was intentional, but how the hell you can possibly determine that that was intentional based on those replays is absolutely asinine. Absurd. Ridiculous. Call it what you will, but you cannot 100 percent say that was intentional based on what Higgins and Co were looking at.
I'm still not saying that it wasn't possibly intentional, but you can't possibly say that it definitely was intentional. After looking at those replays there's no way he will be suspended at all ... because someone more competent will look at the tape and ask himself why Nicholson was ejected in the first place. Because that was arguably one of the most inconclusive replays in the history of replays. If that was the NFL, it would have been a 3 second replay challenge. I'm furious, sorry.

Here is a post game quote by Rautin’s I haven’t seen posted.
“Well, he just came down and hit me with a closed fist. I let the ref know, but I kind of felt sick the rest of the game. There was not much I could do about it after that."
I’m sure that Andrew had a sinking feeling on the ride back to Olean. He had played a remarkable game against top talent & I’m sure his ejection wiped out in his mind the good game he played. Rautin’s is a very gifted player but his mouth prevents him from being a classy winner. Andrew must learn to tune out trash talking players as infuriating as they may be.
I’m confident that coach will deal with the situation in a way to ensure that The Professor learns from the experience. His teammates will learn as well. The fact that the Cuse recap didn’t even mention the ejection & Boeheim’s post game interview dismissed any discussion because coach said 3 times he never saw it is good. I believe that Andrew will learn his lesson well without the glare of media attention to his “error in judgement.” Coach will look to protect him from a future game suspension & take him to the woodshed. I certainly don't see Higgins recommending to the A10 additional penalty.

I wanted to puke reading the messages on the Cuse boards. They are acting like Andrew pulled a Lagaret Blunt and punched a guy in the face, and are playing him off like some thug; we all know this is not true. I just hope this will blow over and Andrew can get back to having his great year.
I wish people would look at the facts before judging a good kid like Andrew.
At least I can say I have a new least favorite team.

Under no circumstances should Andrew apologize to those chumps. I was sitting two rows from the court right behind Syracuse "legend" Danny Schayes and these guys never shut up. They are typical Syracuse a lot of talk. Should Andrew have done what he did no but he payed his penalty. I will be there Tuesday night cheering my head off for him. Maybe Blowheim should apologize for ducking the trip to Olean for the past twenty years. I understand the economics of it all, but it doesn't make it right. You can take the Carrier Dome and its troglodyte inhabitants. That place is a dump. They can pack a lot of people in there, but it is a hole.

I would like to hear Andrew's side to the story. I am pretty sure this was a provoked reaction and Rautins mouth must have been running. We established ourselves as a legitimate program last night and should be a force to reckon with in league play. Congers and Davenport are really stepping up. Expect the Bonnies to finish real strong in 2010. Boheim will be true to form and reschedule after Andrew has graduated. Good game but we need to play other big programs if we can only schedule road games. I said it before. We need to move on from Syracuse unless they are ready to play us in Buffalo in a reciprocal matchup. Boheim is pissed he didn't land Nicholson and I think he is worried that Schmidt will start to recruit the same players in this region and have some success. Hopkins will be about 60 when Boheim finally hands over the reigns. Another guy who is afraid to take a chance on a head coaching position. I agree that we need to get off SU nuts and play other top tier teams. Boheim is a slime ball that won't play leave the state of NY until conference play. I watched SU's online broadcast and they conveniently didn't show one replay of the "sack whack heard round the world". They should have given Nicholson a T and moved on. Unless he did something outrageous (punched Rautins in the face or something) he shouldn't have been kicked out of the game. The fact that they can review something like this is bogus too. According to what happened last night any played can roll around on the ground like a bi*ch (looking at you Rautins) and say he was hit in the nuts. Then the refs will stop the game and look at it.

Everybody needs to move on from this, the hypocrisy here is getting out of control. If someone on another team would have done that to our player, everyone here would be calling for a suspension and calling the guy a thug...etc. Trash talking is part of the game! Whoever thinks that these players arent jawing back and forth all game long has their head in the sand. If you dont like someone trash talking you then stop them. Look at Relph, his antics on the court I am sure pissed off other teams and fans but its part of the game. Nobody here seemed to care when he was doing it. Given the fact Schmidt didnt argue at all and Nicholson did nothing but walk off the court afterward makes me think it was intentional. If he was innocent, he would have been pissed off, probably throw his arms up or something and you know coach would have been pleading right along with him. It happened right in front of Coach so you know he had to have seen it. I hope he learned from it because he is the leader of our team. Turn the page and focus on Niagara. Go Bonas
