Dadster81 I was just wondering where you would rate Metcalf & Adaway on your list you have Roberts #1 Shaw #2 & Creal #3. First of all, thank you Chuck for doing alot of the heavy lifting on comparing players. To answer bigd's question, I would put the order in what I perceive as team needs = #1 - Roberts for strong guard play and passing, and is experienced at the D1 level, #2 Shaw for the bid body inside, #3 Adaway for ability to attack the rim and experience at D1 level, #4 Metcalf based on being tall, a frosh, and a potentially a high ceiling, #5 Creal -I do respect him for looking at who was on the team, and did not care - that shows a strong belief in one's ability. what is everyone else's opinion? Time for a poll

Attached is JP's article "Bona adds proven player with Kent State transfer." Following is from the article. -- More than perhaps most others, Mark Schmidt was keenly aware of the talent level of Anthony Roberts. The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball coach had seen Roberts up close during his team’s “secret” preseason scrimmages with the shooting guard’s Kent State squads in each of the last two years. He knew that Roberts was a capable scorer. He saw a toughness that could have made him a good fit with the Bonnies. And when Roberts put his name into the transfer portal back on March 23, the 14th-year coach seized the opportunity to make that addition a reality. -- Bona is getting a proven player from a good team who will have a year of practice to both gel with the current roster and learn Schmidt’s complex system. With two years of eligibility, he’ll have the opportunity to not only help the currently loaded junior class — a group that includes Kyle Lofton, Osun Osunniyi and Dominick Welch — during its senior year, but help lessen the blow of its departure in 2022. -- ROBERTS HAD nine games of 17 or more points in 2019-20. He tallied at least 12 points in seven of his final eight contests -- Typically inclined to pocket his last available scholarship, Schmidt presumably didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to add such an established player to the roster. www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/bona-adds-proven-player-with-kent-state-transfer/article_d1e6bd14-6975-54dd-828d-b492689e58b7.html

A couple thoughts from JP's article.
-- Schmidt had the 2 "secret scrimmages with Kent State" to scout Anthony Roberts. Schmidt also watched Anthony auditioning for a scholarship in the Reilly Center. I was with Sipo and poster, who prefers to remain anonymous. We also watched Melki and Jalen Pickett auditioning for a scholarship. -- On this board I ranked them Anthony, Melki and Jalen Prickett. I didn't post it at the time, but I preferred Anthony by a lot. I was surprised Schmidt offered a scholarship to Melki and not Anthony. -- Now I think Schmidt offered Anthony, but Anthony chose Kent State. Schmidt got a second chance when Anthony entered NCAA transfer portal. -- I've checked out Schmidt's roster and he never had 13 players in his 13 years as coach of the Bonnies. Using Verbal Commits, I never saw Schmidt make an offer to a recruit, who would be the 13th scholarship. Schmidt is almost fanatical with "keeping one in the back pocket." Schmidt must really value Anthony, considering on his roster Anthony becomes 8th player to be within an inch of his 6'4" height. Also add this might be Schmidt's last scholarship to use in the next 2 years. Anthony must have been a "must add" for Schmidt. -- JP is incorrect with using current Verbal Commits offers. Arizona State made a recent offer to Anthony and did not offer him 2 years ago. Receiving an offer from Arizona State is an impressive offer.

A couple of thoughts.
I spent sometime going through the transfer list for a 6'7"/6'8" 245 pf, using the is eligible immediately category, I didn't find a whole lot. I guess that's a pretty high demand area. That being said, if someone is out there are staff will find them.
The guy that I'm intrigued by that really is "out of left field" is a guy named Amadou Traore, he's a Brooklyn kid, that was in Justin's year/class. I came across Amdaou a couple of times in the 2019 recruiting group. He was an early signing in the fall of 2018 for Coach Casey at Niagara, when Casey was fired, Amadou de committed. In doing some research on Justin, there was some NYC review of players that discussed really good players in the City attending a clinic for prep players. Justin and Amadou both came across as top D1 talents. Amadou's particular attraction was that he was 6'7" 235, with great athleticism. I think most people who are involved with this board would echo the fact that power forwards have been hard to find. Anyway, I lost track of Amadou, we apparently worked him out and I'm not sure if we offered. He prepped out in Wichita, Kansas for some reason and then played a year at Holmes Community College. The Holmes year was underwhelming to say the least, he didn't see much playing time and a lot of people would leave it right there. The intrigue for me is that Amadou clearly is a fit in so many ways, what might work for him and us is that if the coaches felt that he was worth a shot. He comes in and assuming he would qualify, he would have three years. He would be given the chance to restart his educational/athletic career, he would maybe not see. a lot of minutes this year, but he could but we. would have him for two additional years as a guy that can give us minutes as a legit power forward. Amadou gets the chance to prove himself.
Two more things.
I noticed that Russel Tchewa, the 7', 260 guy from Cameroon, who prepped a year at Putnam, appears to still be out there. He played his freshmen year at Texas Tech. My thinking here is that he would sit one year and play three. His issue at Tech was playing time. In our scheme, he would get minutes in year two, but particularly in year three and four. We would go through this coming year with Winston, Metcalf, Shaw and Shoot as our front four players. I am thinking that we could pull some minutes from Creal, who looks to be ready to play down low. So it's taking a chance on this year, but then in really good shape for the next three years, in the front court.
My last thoughts, Isaiah Richards, 6'9"pf, who prepped in Springfield, mass from Brooklyn, Mohamed Wague, 6'9" guy that we have offered, but has not made a decision.

Attached is JP's article "Shaw eager to make D-I jump with Bonnies." Jalen's nickname at Triton was the "Doctor." Cool story how his coach gave him the nickname the Doctor. Following is from article. -- Shaw’s only interaction with coach Mark Schmidt came in an online Zoom call a couple of weeks back. The 6-foot-10 center acknowledged that the restrictions caused by the coronavirus made the recruiting process more challenging than he anticipated. -- “A lot of (us), we weren’t really expecting something like this; we were expecting to make visits, but we can’t. Basically, I went with my gut, I did research and made sure everything was okay.” -- “They have a great league, and I can see myself playing for them, so that was probably the best decision I could have made,” he said. “They have a good team, and from what I hear, a good coaching staff and teammates, and they treat each other like family. That’s the most important stuff, the little stuff, so that’s what (put Bona over the top).” -- “I hate losing, so I’ve got a high … competitive spirit,” he said. “I’m a post player, so I can make moves in the post, I can finish, I can finish fastbreaks, I can pass the ball with my size. I can shoot midis (mid-range jumpers), I can face up. I can do everything.” www.oleantimesherald.com/olean/shaw-eager-to-make-d-i-jump-with-bonnies/article_1582d1ee-61d2-5bb4-b328-e5ca8b46821e.html

Lots of banter on Kent State sports board asking and answering why Roberts go to St Bona. Step up? Lateral move? Conference Comparisons. The link below takes you to the start of the discussion (at bottom of page) which goes on for several pages. csnbbs.com/thread-884058-page-9.htmlInteresting stuff to hear the Kent State view of Roberts, the Bonnies and the A10. Kent has has been a solid program the last 12 to 15 years... usually n top 4 or 5 of MAC last few years but not able to get over the hump.

There are some knowledgeable posters over at Kent's message board, and I thought Bonnies fans had self-confidence issues.

Otis Frazier committed to George Mason.
Congrats to Otis!

I'll admit I have not seen many of these "commit" videos, but I thought whoever put this together did a great job. I liked Jeremiah a lot, but it didn't work. I wish him the best, this is exciting for him as I am sure it is for all students picking where they will be for the next four years.

Perfect time to get a Coleman type to red shirt him for a year of development and learning the system. He was scheduled for a Sept 2019 visit, subsequently got hurt and we canceled. Granted these are strange times but thinking out of the box may become the norm. Take a chance on any big they deem developmental. Thanks to Sip for bringing this kid back into focus.

bjif, what about another 6'11" recruit the BONNIES staff was looking at last Fall, MOUNIR HIMA of St. Benedict's? Do you know if the staff is still looking?

Not sure but I don't think they are done for 2020 class. With Carpenter leaving the necessity for a big is important. There is still talent out there and I have to believe our staff is working overtime to get one.
