What thread was it where there was the debate about retiring numbers? In any event, at the request of sophomore PG Sincere Carry, Duquesne is “ unretiring” Norm Nixon’s number 10 as Carry wanted to honor a friend who had been killed and who wore 10 in high school. Clearly this is in no way a slight against Nixon, who is on my personal Mt. Rushmore list of college point guards I saw first hand. The story in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette mentions that Nixon lead DU to its last appearance in the Big Dance back in 1977. Nineteen seventy friggin’ seven, WOW, what a dry spell! That could have been us, but for our later hiring of Mark Schmidt, instead of the laundry list of long-gone, never-to-be-heard-from-again names DU has had since that time.

Of note - Norm Nixon was contacted by the coach and gave his blessing for this. The Duquesne site has a short article on it - goduquesne.com/news/2019/10/9/mens-basketball-sincere-to-carry-on-the-legacy-of-no-10.aspx

Not one home game televised by CBSN this season... better get some in 2020-2021.

NBCSN carries a ton more A10 games than CBS so the odds of us having a home game on CBS are small.

today is listed as our day for the secret scrimmage vs Kent State......here is an eyewitness account from Bona84: I’m at a hotel across the street from Bona’s. There are a bunch of tall guys not-so-secretly walking around wearing Kent State sweatshirts. Hmmm...

Any word on how the scrimmage went against Kent State yesterday? Surely someone has heard something. Anyone?

I thought SBUNFURLED posted at least a 15 point loss and thought he had posted a line up of DOM, KYLE, ALPHA, JOHNSON & CARPENTER. (Although I cannot find it now, was enjoying some DC area I P As last night) As someone else posted o n UNFURLED's site: "I put as much weight in these secret scrimmage as I do who is the leading scorer in the exhibition game.

I saw some of SBUnfurled's comments, but I still find it hard to believe there is no talk about the scrimmage whatsoever. There are no comments about who individually played well? What has happened to this board? This never happened in past years! Strange.

What has happened to this board? This never happened in past years! Strange. I suspect things went very well or very poorly. We shall see. Also, see video on twitter.com/BonniesMBB . Who is wearing the knee brace at the 11 second mark. Can't see his number, but he does make the shot.

I have to assume that things do not go so well. If the Bonnies rocked Kent State there would be lots of tweets/messages

I thought one of his tweets (or perhaps someone else's) made it clear that we lost by 15, but with frequent coaching stoppages and experimental lineups it isn't prudent to extrapolate.

I cant speak for college but the high school scrimmages I do are not even close to a normal game flow. Coaches call time outs a ton. A game will be stopped so they can re run a botched inbound. FT's are typically all 1-1 and a running clock. We have no idea what the parameters are which is probably why they are secret and you dont hear much about them.

Win or lose, they aren’t anything about which one should overreact. Tons of stoppages, coordination between coaches for situational defenses/offensive sets in lieu of a typical game flow. It’s all about evaluation of one’s own team against a fresh look.
