Bucknell lost Sotos, but not Sestina. Bucknell almost never allows redshirts, medical or otherwise. Sestina had graduated and was not going to be allowed back. Whether he might have wanted to or not, I do not know.

i hear you....my thought was that sbu should keep an assistant scouting the patriot league teams --see below
bucknell lost sestina last year and now sotos to big time programs....ironically, sotos was a hs rival of the above mentioned Ivanauskas.
As I recall, last year lehigh lost a v good player to grad transfer...sbu might have to assign an assistant coach to keep tabs on the patriot league

This is not us, but maybe just an example. So this guy from Texas Tech on the transfer portal. This to me, is starting to get "late in the game". The young man is a 7' 260 C, who is from Cameroon, but played at Putnam Science Academy last year. We have not connection, other than Purnam and it makes no sense, we're going to be strapped for playing time as it is, but let's say it's even later, school is almost started and I think you've going to have this situation, if the new transfer rule gets approved. Guys can just decide they want to leave, don't have to wait and go. That's why holding the scholarship might be a good idea.

That's why holding the scholarship might be a good idea. ***I posted about this player earlier in the 2020 recruiting page*** RANDOM IDEA! (won’t happen but hey it could be interesting) I saw earlier today that Texas Tech’s freshman 7’0 center named Russel Tchewa has put his name in the transfer portal. Prior to TT he did a year of prep at one of our recruiting connections at Putnam Science in CT and before that he played in Italy after moving there from Cameroon which is interesting! He was rated as a 4/3 star recruit and played in 23 games this past season averaging 5.1 minutes per game but did have one start at the end of the season against Baylor but only lasted 5 minutes. I’m curious if P5’s will go after him or if he will drop down to a mid major. I am not sure who else offered him besides TT. It seems like the schools with the Putnam connection have been us, TT, and Gardner Webb the last few years. Maybe the Putnam connection is ending though with TT because in the last 2 years 6’10 Malik Ondigo transferred to Rice, 6’7 Josh Mballa transferred to Buffalo and now Tchewa is in the portal. What if we brought him in and he sat out this upcoming season and learned behind OO/Shaw and then he would be available to play for their senior season! Here are some links on Tchewa. texastech.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/russel-tchewa/9420n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/russel-tchewa-234183247sports.com/player/russel-tchewa-46059187/www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/236229/russel-tchewawww.thehoophustle.com/russeltchewa

Bona84, sorry for the confusion. I was trying to say that we should hold the last scholarship for instances like Russel Tchewa, a four star who spent his first year at Texas Tech. I was not inferring that we had a connection to Russel, other than our guys from Putnam Science Academy, and that we had worked with Coach Espinoza and his staff in the past. So it comes down to this, we hold the last scholarship, but if we had the possibility of recruiting a top player like Russel, that would be a reason to use the last scholarship.
In this "hypothetical" Russel would find a good landing place, sit a year and we would have the chance, this specific set of circumstances to bring a really talent big to campus and we would have some continuity with having bigs to continue building our program around.
