On a night where the 3-ball failed to fall (2/23), Davidson still survives.

I watched Davidson squeak out a win over St Joe's last night. If not for their 2 point loss to VCU they would be a perfect 11-1. Their one game conference loss season is impressive.
They lead the A10 due to winning all but 1 close game. They had close wins beating Fordham +3, VCU +3, Bona +5, GW +5 and Joes in OT. Some of these wins were late comebacks.
I believe they are far more beatable then their 10-1 record indicates. Winning close games may even off down the stretch. One thing is sure they struggle most against a pressing defense.

Wish we would have pressed. Again to my point our starters know our offense, allowing more practice time to scout your opponent. I'm a dentist not a coach but seems very logical to me.

Loyer has made a great difference.
Clearly few recognized they would be this good. In spite of their record I am amazed how they had to squeak out wins against some conference teams.

Too bad BONA staff cannot find a LOYER type player.

Again why ....people on board keep saying our guys are in great shape...so play more or press with iron 5. Coach is making that decision not me.

[/quote] The Bonnies, historically, have not been a “pressing” team. Do they press occasionally?. Yes, as most teams will when in trouble. Their defense is geared to the half court.

Too bad BONA staff cannot find a LOYER type player. Loyer…a guy second on their team in minutes (31 per) would choose PT over a team with a guaranteed starting five??? Now how does that make sense? Why wouldn’t a player of his caliber not choose the Bonnies where he could possibly get five minutes per game? The lack of critical thinking on this board is baffling sometimes…

Does anyone advocating the mid-game decision to use a press defense know that the team has practiced using the press? Because otherwise, suddenly switching to a type of defence (or offense) the team is not familiar with and expecting it to be effective is pure folly. Stick with what you’ve prepared for. This isn’t CYO ball, where “He’ll, let’s give it a try” is okay.

This isn’t CYO ball, where “He’ll, let’s give it a try” is okay. The team definitely practices a press and is pretty good at it when they need to to go it (Davidson game for example). But running a press takes a lot more energy than a half court defense, leaves your vulnerable to fast freak points, and will increase the amount of fouls we pick up. Not something you want to do when you only play seven guys. Our issues are more on the offensive end and not hitting open shots and getting the good looks we need. I don’t think that running a press helps us win more.
