Just thinking out loud regarding the depth of this roster.I believe MS will go the redshirt route again. This makes sense for the program and player.Let's take Barry Evans for example. At his size and lack of weight is it better that he spend a year with Darren Fiske so that he gets bigger and stronger. He also gets advanced academicaly so that he acquires and graduates with a Masters. His parents seem like people who only want what is best for their son and he is put into a position to succeed both on and off the court. Civilized responses welcome. I would think Barry Evans will play and contribute right away. Mark Schmidt does not use the redshirt much. Last season with Rumpel and Mellouk was just a unique situation. Mellouk was injured and Rumpel was young having bypassed prep school, Evans will come in already a prep grad. Not to mention the situation this year is different than last, with playing and starting positions up for grabs for anyone and Evans has as good, maybe a better shot than most anyone to grab it

Like it or not, I think the "red shirt year" with the exception o f an an injury shortening a player's season, is going to be a thing of the past. I think the present transfer rule provide more than an impetus to transfer. There maybe a situation where player/family and coach can agree there perhaps being the exception. Time will tell, but in the case of Barry Evans, I think his having played at a very high level of completion, I think he is ready to contribute this year.
Looking forward scholarship wise. I am really excited about Anquan Hill. I realize that I'm crossing my streams, Hill would be a transfer. A very quick jumper at 6'9"he along with Yann Farell, JNT and Mellouk and I believe Max Amadasun as well, all have the possibility to block shots.
If Anquan is a no go, Mason Michi'L, looks like a very different kind of PF than Anquan. The 6'8" Nevada prep star seems to be more of a physical player, who can shoot. A lot of interest in Mason. I don't know who else has an interest in Anquan. Anquan's very late entry into the portal, may like in the case of Shoon decided to de commit late work out in our interest. Had Anquan opted into the portal sooner, there IMO would have been a lot of interest. Anquan is a really talented kid, I watched a couple of his complete game footage and even as a junior at Archbishop Carroll, he was clearly a talent.
This all said, there is likely some other guy that we don't know about. I don't know about the other big guards we have looked at at this point, Powers and DeZonie, They seem to do some things better than Noah, but that said, Noah is a unique talent. If he can continue to grow his game, he will be a real match up challenge. I am wondering if we sit on our last scholarship. I know there is the reality that someone definitely will leave after this coming year, but I do like having the scholarship for a game changing kind of kid, or being able to offer someone we really like in the '23 class, there is a pg from MA that I really like.

If he’s physically capable and mentally ready by learning the playbook, and thus can help the team win and add to his development as a player, then by all means let him play. I agree with bonaballa, hoops is not a body building contest. Extra musculature doesn’t necessarily help every player. Would Essie Hollis have been better with an extra 25 pounds of muscle? IMO, no and it might have ruined his game by reducing his quickness and ability to worm his way into the proper position. Plus as many of us have learned, once that weight is on, it is not easy to get back off, which I think is true for elite athletes also.

Kevin Durant, Andrew Wiggins and Chet Holmgren need more muscle 🤔

Bigcat - if those guys and their coaches agreed more weight would better their play, they’d have the additional weight already. Those guys are subjected to the best coaches and trainers there are, and as professionals have the time and opportunity to work on their physical make up. IMO (Observation), additional muscle does not always equal better basketball, and sometimes, a year off from true competition dulls the skills.

Bona goes from 0 ppg returning to total of nearly 62 ppg from seven division 1 transfers. Hope upgrade to A10 competition will translate. Still division 1 experience is a plus as is height of newcomers. Guards Kyrell Luc Holy Cross 13.0 ppg, Moses Flowers Hartford 14.1 ppg, Daryl Banks St. Peter’s 11.3 ppg and big men Noah Waterman Detroit Mercy 8.0 ppg, Chad Venney Morgan State 7.2 ppg, Max Amadasun Pitt .3 ppg and Anquan Hill Fairleigh Dickinson 7.7 ppg. Along with talented freshmen wings Yann Farrell and Barry Evans and returnees Brett Rumpel, JNT and Anouar Mellouk, there will be a battle for playing time. Hope it doesn’t take too many games to establish a rotation.

Some of the greatest players of all time — like Durant, Garnett, the Ice Man etc — and ex-Bona greats were bean poles. Sure it’s nice to have a few hulks in the rotation … but let’s not critique physiques until we can see guys play. That was my point. Some of my best material goes unappreciated 🤓

We’ve offered someone named Melian Martinez, haven’t looked him up yet. 95 percent of the BW will believe you now, Verbal Commits just posted the announcement. Would rather see the staff go after a Grad Transfer for their experience but bringing in a tall project is also good since they would know their PT would be limited.
