Go Bonnies “Opening Tip.” — Chad “is the first Bonnies big man to win A-10 weekly honors since Andrew Nicholson did so five times in 2012.” — Chad “has transformed his body through hard work from a 345-pound freshman to his current 270-pound frame.” — Chad “never played 30+ minutes or posted back-to-back double-figure scoring efforts.” — Yann has “scored in double figures in four straight games including a pair of double-doubles.” — Yann is Schmidt’s first freshman to “post multiple double-doubles in his first six career games.” gobonnies.com/news/2022/11/29/mens-basketball-bonnies-blue-raiders-face-off-wednesday.aspx Interesting notes from JP in today’s OTH. — MTSU tied an NCAA record with a 21 win increase last year. — MTSU returns 4 starters. — Schmidt states “aren’t a great shooting team” but are “really athletic, really long and they’re really aggressive, they’re men, they’re mature guys.” — Schmidt notes MTSU has “30 more offensive rebounds (than their opponent), they get to the foul line a ton and they turn teams over 17 times a game.” — MTSU runs a three-quarters court press. Schmidt states “we gotta be ball-strong. We can’t turn the ball over 15, 16, 20 times.” www.oleantimesherald.com/sports/bona-brings-nd-high-into-middle-tennessee/article_b2be349c-8501-5abe-aeee-6f1f05951144.html#tncms-source=login

This thread has well documented all the strengths and weaknesses of tonight's opponent.
In short we must care for the ball, all 5 hit the boards and curtail our fouls to get a win.

Big key to this game is handling MTSU's press. -- MTSU press is a concern. Southern Indiana quickly turned a 21 point game into an 11 point game by using a press. Schmidt’s comment about MTSU being “really athletic, really long and they’re really aggressive” is a concern with a 5’11” PG. -- Their defense sounds like VCU’s “havoc” defense. Something very difficult to face, so early into the season. It is made worse with all the players being in their 1st year with Schmidt and having less than 2 months of practicing together. -- MTSU forces opponents into an average of 17.4 turnovers a game. They turn these turnovers into 19.3 ppg, which is close to 30% of their total points scored. Critical for Bonnies to handle MTSU’s press. goblueraiders.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats

Middle Tenn has a 6'8 guard, kinda skinny, but he's emerging as a real player. Number 10 Elias King.
Who do you guys think should guard him? Barry the Bonnie? I don't know that I want Daryl Banks on him, although Banks' D has been strong last couple games, I don't like the 6'8 guy shooting over him

On the other hand, Luc has shown an ability’s to handle the ball, which may be helped by his smaller size and resulting smaller dribble length between the floor and his hand. So if MTSU is counting on turnovers to key their offense and doesn’t get them early, they may get frustrated and sloppy and start fouling, and sending Luc to the line could be very beneficial to the Bonnies. I expect Luc to continue to be the key to Bona’s success.

MTSU possibly is the best defensive team we faced so far this season. They are scrappy and very tough physically.
Similar to SBU the Blue Raiders were pretty awful in their first three to four games. They got whacked by Missouri State and struggled vs Winthrop. Lots of bad turnovers and bad shot selection.
Sounds familiar. I could not find replays of their games in Canada. They still continue to turn over the ball at a high rate but they also force more than they commit.
Hopefully the Bonnies can take care of the ball tonight and execute on both ends as well as they did vs ND.
