Banks leans in often and tries to get to the line. I think there’s definitely a time and place for that but early in the game he should worry less about that and make sure his shots are sound. He will figure it out though I’m sure

He will figure it out though I’m sure Maybe he will learn--but not so far. Had his shot blocked 3 times last night and had one other where he went up for shot and couldn't even get it off and called for that. Very bad look and has happened twice this year already. So that's 4 total last night. Usually he has 2 or 3 examples. Luc is shorter but has more hops and gets shot off quicker so he can often get a forced shot off (and has knack for making them).

These fine young men stepped up and beat a very good Middle Tennessee team. Very long and athletic. Below is the write up off their page.
Blue Raiders drop close game in hostile environment
St. Bonaventure, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure closed out a back-and-forth game by hitting all 10 of its free throw attempts in the final minute, holding on for a 71-64 victory on its home floor over Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. In a game that saw nine ties and six lead changes, the Blue Raiders led for over 60 percent of the game, but the Bonnies claimed the lead with just under two minutes left and held on in front of a raucous crowd.
So cool " in hostile environment " " in front of a raucous crowd "
Lets go Bonas

Middle Tennessee was moving at a different speed than the Bonnies in the first half. Credit to Schmidt and this team for making an adjustment. Great to see Yann come up with a huge board and Barry’s blocked shot was key.
As Bonnies fans, we’ve been so spoiled with great guard play. Kyrell Luc won us that game.

Still early in the season as many teams are looking to gell. How good is Notre Dame and Middle Tennessee who we recently beat by 12 and 7 pts rescpectively?
Both teams were far more experienced and returned critical players.
Going into last night's game we knew the strengths of MT. Stifling D holding teams to 63 ppg, they create 17+ TOs, dominate the glass (+6.6 reb margin), play 9+ pressing and trapping the ball.
Their weaknesses are TREY shooting 31% and 69% FTs.
Both weaknesses were on display as they made just 11% TREYS and just 4&% FTs.
I would like to attribute MTs worse than usual trey shooting to our defenders. They are the #1 TREY DEFENSE in the A10. Allowing opponents to only 25% TREYS. A dramatic improvement of last year's #9 TREY D allowing 34%.
I believe we beat two good teams and in spite of mistakes and climbing the learning curve we are gaining confidence and moving in the right direction.

Wgt, excellent comments … BUT our maturity will be tested Saturday in Buffalo. Bad/stupid mistakes doomed the Bonnies in our only road games (yes, SDSU was basically a road game) where it is tougher to seize and hold momentum.
We will see if this progression continues vs the Bulls — if we can clean up the areas that plague us for stretches of each game … poor shot selection, unforced turnovers, missed defensive assignments or getting blown by off the dribble too easily, and inconsistent FT shooting (mainly Evans and Flowers).
Overall our offensive and defensive numbers are pretty darn good, but it’s the roller coaster ride that sees us fall behind or not finish games in our two losses. We did a great job of closing out the last two wins, playing smart, efficient basketball in the final minutes.
The Bulls handled Canisius easily last weekend. They will be confident and pumped to see the Bonnies in their house. Let’s hope we do not dig a huge hole by repeating our youthful mistakes.

I seem to remember [and probably rightly so] that one of the big gripes on this board for the last few years was how the Ironmen 2.0 didn't defend the three well. I hope that this has been a focus for Mark & staff and that this trend continues!
