Watched a video preview of MTS's upcoming season, they return a lot of players from a squad that won their division last year, I didn't realize they were part of Conference USA, N Texas, Western Kentucky and a couple of other strong teams are in their division. They are playing at our place this year, but are riding at 17 game winning streak at home that dates back to last season. They are currently playing in a three game tournament in Montreal, this past Friday, yesterday and today. They handled Hofstra on Friday night and yesterday beat SF Austin, well maybe I'm confused, I know they beat SF Austin, but it might have been at home. SF Austin has had some good teams, and SF Austin beat South Dakota State at SD, about a week after we played SDS. So a veteran team that is really starting to look like they are coming on. They play Montana State today. In the preview, they talked to several current players, one who stood out was DeAnfre Dishman, a 6'6" 235 lb forward who is an Eastern Kenturcky transfer, several years ago, then it's like the Courtney Stockard case, he sits out a year, the next year he injuries his knee, then he gets a co vid year and then based on how well the team played last year, they went along way in the CBI, he decided with all they had coming back that he would return for his 7th year. Dishman plays forward, an extremely strong, physical presence, that I don't think we match up with at forward. MTS seems to play a core of 7-8 guys, very strong, quick defensive team that likes to get up and down the court. I think they have good size at guard, 6'5" and 6'7" with another 6'7" forward, So in short, they very well could be coming to our place at 6-2, having won three games in three days in Montreal. Hopefully our students will be back and we can get another good game across the board from this young team.

MTSU wins 72-71 when Montana St blows one from short range with 3 sec left.
Even with only 20 rebounds the entire game, MTSU turned them over 23 times, while committing 22 fouls. Incredibly physical team, will be a huge test for us. They’ll come in 5-2.

Montana up 1 with about 34 sec to play they commit their 23rd TO which MTSU turned into a score and defended the final 18 secs for the 1 pt win.
This was a back and forth battle (24 lead changes). MTSU Producing 26 pts off TOs, to their 14 was the difference.
They were outrebounded by 4 but over the course of the season they enjoy an amazing +6.6 reb margin. They accomplish it by rebounding by committee. KING 6'8" is their top rebounder grabbing just 5.4 rebs. They attack the boards from all angles to provide such effective rebounding.
Our stats first.
PPG 73/70
FG% 45/45
TREY % 37/31
FT% 73/69 Reb Margin +2.3/+6.6
Assists 13/11.4
TOs 13.2/15.4
Steals 5.7/8.4
Blocks 4.8/4.6

The Blue Raiders made it to the championship game of the CBI last season, where they lost in overtime to UNC-Wilmington.
Their coach Nick McDevitt is in his 7th season after having great success at UNC Asheville. MTSU had been down and rebuilding for several seasons until last year, when it finished as East Division champs in CUSA, but failed to win the league tourney.
The Raiders were one of the top mid-major programs under Kermit Davis from 2003-2018. MTSU’s top two scorers from last season have graduated — but they had a balanced attack last year (6 guys scoring at least 8ppg).

Just have to weather the storm for the first half. I think Middle Tenn will come out strong but have tired legs in the second half. Can’t get behind the 8ball early though

Caring for the ball and rebounding are critical in beating MTSU. Today they scored 26 pts off of TOs. Their 13 steals were a season high.
I am not sure they will have tired legs down the stretch. Today they played 8 and no one clocked more than 31 mins. In their 8 games the most anyone plays is less than 25 mpg.

We’ll see on tired legs. For me, it’s more of road weariness. Wednesday will be their fourth game in 6 days — all on the road (neutral site in Montreal) and a week away from home. We need to turn that into an advantage.

Good point on the affect of "Road weariness."
Tired legs won't be due to mins played.

Last year Middle Tennessee had the 2nd most wins in Conference USA with a record of 24-11. They finished 1st in the Eastern Division of Conference USA. Currently MTSU is 4-2 and has a solid 95 NET. Stats that standout for MTSU are defensive points allowed, turnovers and 3 point shooting. — MTSU defense is averaging opponents just 62.4 ppg. It is the 61st best in the nation. Of Bonnies opponents, Notre Dame had the lowest averaging 70.2 ppg, which is almost 8 ppg higher than MTSU. 62.4 ppg would currently be the 3rd best in the A-10. — MTSU is forcing opponents into 17.4 turnovers a game. For perspective, only VCU’s “havoc” defense forces more turnovers in the A-10. Scoring points off turnovers is a significant part of their game. MTSU is averaging 70.0 ppg and 19.3 of those points are created from turnovers. — MTSU is a poor 3 point shooting making just 31.0% of their 3 pointers. It is one of the worse 3 point shooting averages in the nation, being ranked 273rd. MTSU has an even balance of playing time among their top 7 players, who average between 20 and 28 minutes a game. Top 5 scorers: 6’6” DeAndre Dishman (sr.) averages 12.7 ppg. 6’8” Elias King (jr.) averages 10.3 ppg. He is by far their best 3 point shooter making 42.9% of his 3s, but makes less than 2 a game. Was a top 150 recruit, originally signed with Mississippi State. 6’1” Jestin Porter (soph.) averages 9.6 ppg. 6’5” Eli Lawrence (jr) averages 9.4 ppg. 6’3” Camryn Weston (jr.) averages 8.0 ppg. They have two 6’10” players deep on their bench. Jared Coleman-Jones plays more, but is 10th on the team in minutes played at 9.0 minute per game. He averages just 1.9 ppg. In 7 games has just 12 rebounds. Chad was described by Notre Dame’s coach Mike Brey as being a monster inside. Looking forward to another big game from Chad, with MTSU’s small lineup. If MTSU doubles down on Chad (like Notre Dame) it should create a lot of open 3s for the Bonnies. Bona is currently 4th in the A-10, making 37.3% of their 3s. goblueraiders.com/sports/mens-basketball/statswww.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/middle-tennessee/2023.htmlatlantic10.com/stats.aspx?path=mbball&year=2022

Bona Athletics: ABOUT MIDDLE TENNESSEE
The Blue Raiders continue their northern trip looking to remain red hot after scoring three straight victories at the Northern Classic in Montreal. MTSU captured impressive mid-major wins over Hofstra (64-54), a club that started 4-1, and Stephen F. Austin (75-63) before holding off Montana State, 72-71, in the finale Sunday.
De'Andre Dishman, in his seventh year of college basketball and fifth at MTSU after multiple knee injuries, leads the squad at nearly 13 points per game while Elias King adds 10.3 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
MTSU returns six players from last year's squad that had a remarkable 21-win increase from the season prior, tying an NCAA record, finishing 26-11 a season ago after finishing 5-18 in 2020-21. The Blue Raiders went 13-5 in C-USA play, reaching the semifinals before suffering a triple overtime heartbreak vs. UAB. MTSU qualified for the CBI, winning three games over California Baptist, Boston and Abilene Christian, but saw its season end in the CBI Championship Game in double overtime vs. UNC Wilmington.
The Blue Raiders were picked fourth out of 11 teams in the CUSA Preseason Poll, and sophomore guard Teafale Lenard Jr. was picked to the Preseason All-Conference Team after being named to the All-Freshman Team last year. MTSU is already 1-0 in Conference USA play, defeating Rice in the third game of the year.
SERIES HISTORY St. Bonaventure leads, 2-0
The Bonnies and Blue Raiders have met just twice before and never in the Reilly Center.
Prior to the 2019 meeting outside Nashville, the two programs got together for a neutral court battle at the famed "Pit" at New Mexico. In that December 1993 game, the Bonnies were able to score an 83-69 victory.
