Since our 89-78 win at their place they have gone 5-1 (loss was by 2 pts to GW). We had a 19 pt lead which they cut to single digits with around 11 mins to play and the crowd was wild. Then CHUCK hit a TREY and the crowd went silent. Announcer said it was the biggest basket of the game.
In conference play they are playing better. At 5-2 they sit tied in 3rd place. They are #1 TREY % .422 and #3 defending treys keeping opponents to a meager .289.
They have been fantastic on the road. 11 straight road wins, longest in nation. Incredible 20-3 road warriors in the A10.
Hope to see Captain Beer Mug and Reilly Rowdies help break that national streak.
KUANY is #1 TREY % at .765 !!! Followed by our CHUCK at #2 (.565) and MIKA #5 (.453).
Then they have LAWAL #1 FG% (.688). Quite an inside out duo.
SHULGA scares me but we held him to 7 pts on 2-7 and 0-4 TREYS.
Our D holds the answer to the outcome. Hopefully a strong D will help our Heckle and Hyde offense replicate our performance at the Siegel Center.
Has Daryl found his shot?? His last outing raised his 7 game conference TREY% to .417.

VCU struggled with Venning last game. Really though it was our passing that broke them, pass the rock around and open looks can be found

Got this off the VCU message board - these guys and the St Louis board seem to all be cut from the same cloth. A lot different than what you see on Richmond and Davidson boards...

One of the keys to beating the Rams again is making Utah State transfers SHULGA & BAIRSTOW non factors again.

At their place SHULGA & BAIRSTOW were limited to a total of 14 pts, hitting on 7-17, & 0-5 TREYS.
VCU has no big scorer. In 7 conf games their top man is Bansile 12.9 ppg in just 19 mpg. He's super quick who loves the TREY with a lightening trigger. Has been hot of late.
They go 10 deep with everyone chipping in points. Only two low double digit scorers.
In their last 2 losses their defense failed them. Back to back we scored 89 and GW put up 84. They have clearly addressed their D issues. In their 5 game win stretch they have allowed only 60 ppg !!!
How our hot and cold offense responds to their staunch D will most likely determine the outcome. They are #3 in defending the TREY which will challenge CHUCK, MIKA and MOSES. Would be super if DARYL could stroke it like his last game.
They play smart D and will double CHAD at opportune times. At their place he had only 2 TOS and his last game only 1. A big improvement in his propensity to give it up.

Sip is so right about limiting Shugla and Bamisle. I also thought their lack of a true point guard hurt them against us last outing
I dont know why they don't give that Richmond transfer Nelson more minutes so they actually have someone to run the point. It does appear though as I look at the box scores that they are finally starting to do so

It does appear though as I look at the box scores that they are finally starting to do so it seems to me in this day and age of college hoops the "true" point guard position is being somewhat eliminated in favor of the "position less" basketball theory. a lot of the teams i have viewed this year seem to lack the "true" PG , and i think it shows in their teams results.

Use that full court pressure again. VCU seems to lack confident ball handlers and we were able to give them some trouble getting into their sets.

With no true PG they have SHULGA, JACKSON, BAIRSTOW and NELSON that are all playmakers with impressive A/TO ratios. They have 14.2 assists a game compared to their opponents 9.9.
SHULGA and JACKSON can be pressured to cough it up. They turn it over 12.5 a game.
