To be fair, I thought Schmidt had a great game plan. Give Holmes his points and shut down one of the best three point shooting teams in the country. And it worked to perfection. Just fell a few points short with a big chance to steal the game. Hopefully Mika is back in the starting lineup rest of the year.

Our Guys can't dwell on this defeat for long. They can make up key ground next week. Home w UMass and Duquesne, rematch at Fordham. They can go from 4-5 to 7-5 right quick.
This is doable, folks.

Proud of this performance, team shut down the mighty 3 pointers of the Flyers and played some very good defense. Bonnies fought a very good team in a hostile environment like true gladiators. Proud of this showing, onwards and upwards in the next two weeks. Hope the RC is rocking again to welcome back the troops of Brown and White. Go Bona's beat UMass

Holmes and ones hurt us. Kept saying give the 2 or hammer him....about 4 or 5 extra points

HOLMES beginning to exert himself. fouls on our centers a problem moving forward. Certainly was. Both Venning and Brown met the quota unfortunately.

ASSA's back to back 3s actually helped and hurt the BONNIES at the same time. While his offensive input was needed, by making these shots kept BARRY, a better defensive player on the bench. Maybe at this point SCHMIDT should have pulled whichever of the 3 guards on the floor that had turned sluggish for BARRY.

Holmes is obviously a good player. But his flailing to get foul calls was a bit much. I wish they didn’t reward him

SBUnfurled tonite: "Evans is the definition of a positionless basketball player. He exclusively played the 3 last season, and there's no reason he can't play the 3 again with Assa at the 4. "He should play 30 MPG and not at the expense of one position. He can play 3 through 5 depending on matchups."
Also: "Puzzling 2nd half rotations, as the lineup that kept us in it early was nowhere to be found in the 2nd.
"We can beat them in Brooklyn on an even playing field."

Just watched some highlights, This is two games in a row that Evans has driven the ball to throw up that baby hook from about 8 ft. It looks good. It is ok to throw up a few more. It makes the defense move and leaves shooters open around the 3pt line in case you want to throw the ball out to them. Use that handle!

SLOW STARTS: The Dayton game was more of the same. Why does this team struggle offensively at the start of many games? The answer is not “all of our opponents are great defensively”.
Do the Bonnies’ coaches get their best players (other than Chad) involved in the game plan?
Is this mental, physical, coaching prep, player IQ, lineup rotations, bad chemistry … or a combo of all of the above?
vs GMU: we score 7 points in the first 11 minutes … trail 33-27 at half. No offensive rhythm most of the game. Lose 69-60.
vs DUQ: MAW suspended/DNP. We score 5 pts in first 11 minutes. Trail 22-15 at half and by 16 with 5 minutes left in game. Late rally cuts final score to 54-50.
vs SJU: Bonnies score 45 in first half. Win 91-72. It is SBU’s seventh time scoring at least 89 points this season.
vs VCU: Rams get off to 7-0 lead. SBU scores only 12 pts in first 10 minutes … trail 39-19 with 3 minutes left in half. We close the half on a 7-0 run. Play a great second half to win 67-62.
vs UD: SBU again falls behind 7-0 before scoring 5:28 into the game. Bonnies score only 9 pts over the first 11+ minutes before a 17-9 run gives us our first lead. Led 30-28 at half and score 41 points in the second half. Lose 76-71.
Bonnies had other games with decent starts — but long scoring droughts wrecked our chances for victory.
vs RICH: SBU led 21-13 before going scoreless for 8 minutes late in first half. Lose 65-54.
vs FAU: Bonnies led by 10 but score only 6 points in the final 9 minutes of the first half. Lose 64-54.
Canisius and Auburn losses featured similar dry spells. Auburn is a top 15 team so that is/was predictable. The Griffs are awful — yet we got out-scored 25 to 6 to open the second half.
Our offensive inconsistency is baffling. We have wasted many fine defensive efforts this season — including the first half last night.

I was literally yelling at the TV - PUT EVANS ON HIM !!! IMO : Assa has no place on the floor when we are in end of game - down 6 scramble mode. He can't create off the dribble and offered little to no resistance on Holmes. Barry - Mika - Chuck - Moses - Daryl with Barry fronting Holmes - denying him the ball. How can coach not see that ?

I agree with so much of what you say. At one point a few games back I felt we as a team were overmatched but I think too many times Schmidt has the wrong guys on the floor especially Assa at the end of a game. After a year and a half we know what he is. The team talent is there and Schmidt has been a little too rigid in making adjustments. Our bench is deep and we don’t rely on one or two players to win games. We are better than our record shows. You get nothing for trying hard if you lose. This was a very winnable game.

I just keep thinking about that game and it makes me more upset. We made 7 more 3-pointers and lost

Our bench is deep and we don’t rely on one or two players to win games. We are better than our record shows. You get nothing for trying hard if you lose. This was a very winnable game. Many posters including me seem to see obvious things that Schmidt does not. Obviously we are idiots. Yes players make plays or they don’t … but I cannot recall a bad coaching stretch like this from Schmidt ever. He is getting out-coached way too often this season. Our offense is sickly too often. Maybe it’s the fact that Schmidt had virtually zero bench or rotation pieces in 4 to 5 years. Now he goes 9 deep and there’s no rhyme or reason to many of his substitutions except when our bigs get into foul trouble. Schmidt makes so many knee-jerk substitutions when Mika, Moses, Brown or Chad and some others make bad plays … he takes them out. That’s what bad high school coaches do. Give your players freedom to make mistakes and make plays. Conversely, Banks can hurl bricks and cinder blocks yet stays on the floor for long stretches because Schmidt thinks he is an elite defender. Is he really better than — or as good as — Moses, Mika, Evans, Pride or Luc on D? Evans can guard any position on the floor, grab 8 boards in his sleep, create a couple steals and easy buckets, handle the ball with pace, and make great passes without shooting 2-for-9. He is the only high-energy, electric athlete on the team … yet he gets forgotten and/or under utilized. Why?. Schmidt keeps one of the top PGs in the A10 on the bench for 3 minutes to open the game, when he must know that does NOT help his team get off to a good start. Schmidt defenders please speak up. I am normally one but the last couple weeks have me thinking something is not right with his strategy and his team chemistry.
