I hope people understand that Jim O’Brien was the beginning of the dark ages - he left the coffers empty and used us to go to Ohio State - he gets no stars from me. Didn’t he go to Boston College? Left SBU for Boston College & then jumped to Ohio State

I'll echo your statement, bigcat! Congrats on Number 300 to Coach Mark Schmidt!! He's helped to bring us a long, long way a few years after the turn of the century....God Bless Mark Schmidt: arguably the best overall coach St. Bonaventure has ever had!!

Should they fire Coach Schmidt immediately after they honor him for his 300th win at the St Louis game, or let him finish the season?

For the specific criticism that Schmidt takes for not taking blame when things go wrong, these same posters should so recognize yesterday’s post game interview where he took ZERO credit for any of his 300 wins and attributed ALL of those wins to the players.
I want program progression as well, but the reality is that at least 98% of the alternatives result in our program getting worse.
Schmidt has earned every benefit of the doubt and should have this job as long as he wants it. And should never buy a meal or drink in Catt county!

Not at all surprised that Steve took the opportunity to visit with many fans and good friends on his first visit back to the RC. He was always looking to spend time talking with the Bona community.
I'm sure there were many fond memories of his time here as well as sadness with the absence of his dad (Dr. John G Watson, Dean of Bona School of Business) and brother DR, John J Watson (Bona prof 2004 to his shocking passing in 2012). They were so much a part of the fabric of Bona. Loved his brother doing the color for TV broadcasts. He was next to the Niagara bench and his live mic caught young AC Martelli Jr yell at Andrew calling him a "Dirty Mother F-----" while the stands were silent as Da'Quan Cook was taking a FT. John apologized for Martelli Jr's profanity to the listening audience.
Steve is such a real good guy! Rooting for LUC hard when they are not opposing us.

Schmidt has also stated that he is going to help find the right person to run the program when he retires. That's huge if he takes the time to do that as well as maybe even train the new hire on how to get talent to consider st Bonaventure. It's got to be tricky.

Regarding this thread andthis entire issue: Mark is a great coach period. Bonaventure has been lucky to have him for 17 years period. The program would not be where it is without him. Period. On the other hand Bonaventure has been good to Mark. Very good. And it’s OK for some fans to vent when the team plays poorly. That’s what being a fan is all about. The response of some to the objections of a few is often over the top. I’m sure coach takes it in stride and we should too Some act as if the occasional objection to Mark a On this board is a capital offence. Far from it. Mark has been very clear on many multiple occasions that his success has been a function of his coaching staff, and their ability to bring in good players and the players themselves as well as the overall community. And that is as it should be.

Strictly as an observer, could it be some recently brought in such as Dana Valentine?

If Bona chooses Dana Valentine as their next HC, we will be in deep sh**. SBU's next coach needs to be someone who has coached at the D1 level to avoid a setback. There are a ton of GREAT low major coaches that would walk to Olean from their current schools if the play was north of $900K
