Still remembering from today: Barry hit a mini-hook. Then hit a 3. Came down and hit a 2. A little later: another 2. All tough shots, no dunks. Then he stopped shooting and passed to others who flopped. Love to see him shoot with confidence in tourney. Way we are going, nothing to lose....
Mika tried but had one assist to SLU frosh who had...ten....
After not playing Luc at all last game he got in for a minute today and had instant TO. Writing on the wall there...
Mika asked to play 39 minutes after maybe 32 all year....Banks fine as PG sub....

Way we are going, nothing to lose.... Don't disagree on the truth of what you write, but there's nothing sadder than having nothing to lose.

Can Barry play point guard next year? Great vision While this may have been said in jest, it’s really not a bad idea. Barry Evans is a point forward. One of the best ball handlers and decision makers on the team. Thrives in transition. Schmidt hasn’t really used him as a weapon in the offense, but I hope that changes next year. He’s a very versatile player. The one bright spot today and for majority of the year. He’s the one player that really gives me hope and optimism. Schmidt needs to take the training wheels off and let him loose.

Who knows, maybe this batch of players was just a miss. We’ve been spoiled over the years. Guys like Nicholson, Wright, Posley, Adams, Mobley, Stockard, The entire Iron 5. This team doesn’t have guys like that. It is what it is.

Can’t lie, Schmidt looked defeated when it came to the players and their emotions.

Yeah - Frustration personified.
It makes it real tough for any coach when he cares more than the players.
Hope Mark can wipe the slate clean and move forward with a new team and new attitude next year.
Not expecting an A10 Tournament run - but who the hell knows with this team ...

I think this team knew that it was all about the Tournament after the LaSalle loss. I expect them to dominate Wed and Thurs, then see where the chips fall on Sat and, hopefully, Sun

"The kids will forget about this game in fifteen minutes, they've probably forgotten about it already... they're having their pizza or something."
Ouch! Is that all you need to know? Players aren't upset, not pissed, just accept the loss...

I think this team knew that it was all about the Tournament after the LaSalle loss. I expect them to dominate Wed and Thurs, then see where the chips fall on Sat and, hopefully, Sun Well that’s a stretch and, if true, it’s really disgusting. So after playing like crap vs a team that lost 13 in a row (as we do about every 3rd game) our guys decide to mail it in on senior day … because they hope to make a run in Brooklyn? Even IF we make a run this week it just shows the lack of heart and leadership on this team. Fans are paying to support this bunch and rooting from afar — yet half the time players don’t play or act like they care. The inconsistency and lack of intensity is unacceptable. Coach knows that but seems helpless. Add to the fact that many of these young men are getting paid. I’m not saying they are not trying but the level of effort and execution is not even close to what is needed to be a great or at least very good A10 team. And it is WORSE if any player (and fan) are actually thinking “OK now we turn it on and give full effort because this is our (last) chance to make the big dance”. If this group of players cannot realize that they could have been a top 2 or 3 seed or can be A10 champs then they must be a fragile bunch of kids. Of course they have enough to win this league when they are giving effort and mentally focused. That is what is so frustrating. To play inspired and sound bball vs VCU twice, at Fordham, vs LUC and UMass twice — even at UD and vs FAU — gave us hope. Then in many other games we look very pathetic offensively and/or defensively speaks to their fragile mindset. The way this team plays every few games would not surprise me or anyone if we win games in Brooklyn or if we totally lay an egg vs GW/LaSalle. Those teams played inspired ball vs us and our guys were sleepwalking.

Can’t lie, Schmidt looked defeated when it came to the players and their emotions.[/quote]
I thought the same thing when I watched this. It's sad when the coach (and us fans) care more about the outcome of these games then the players. Not all of them but some of them for sure. Schmidt is too nice of a guy but he should have went all scorched earth in the presser last night like Pitino did for two days. Pitino said his players sucked and worse, actually naming three players for their lack of talent and athletic ability. Did the players quit and sulk? No. They all took it as a challenge and a "I'll show you" moment. Since then St John's has won five straight and has played themselves into the tournament.
If Schmidt won't then I will. I'll name one player. Chad Venning. You are 6'10", 265lbs. You got thrown around yesterday underneath the hoop like a rag doll by guys half your size. In the last two games against the two worst teams in the conference, you had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 turnovers. Combined. Now you are going home to Brooklyn to play in front of your family and friends, maybe for the last time as a Bonnie. Go down there and dominate the paint and the boards. Throw your imposing size around. Carry this team on your back for the next two games and get us to a semi-final match on Saturday afternoon on national T.V vs Dayton, a team you have had success against the past two years. We will all be behind you.

the presser was very telling. not about SCHMIDT, but rather about the players status of soldiers of fortune, or mercenaries.

"The kids will forget about this game in fifteen minutes, they've probably forgotten about it already... they're having their pizza or something." Ouch! Is that all you need to know? Players aren't upset, not pissed, just accept the loss... To be fair, that’s not the first time coach has made that statement. He has said it a number of times, and it goes way back. I don’t believe it was directed at a team that doesn’t care…more to the way kids are, and have been for awhile. I do believe tho, that this year has been a very disappointing year for him. We go into next year with what I will say as absolutely no “knowns”. None.
