Not that it’s ok, but no such thing as lotalty. Kids are entitled! Bullseye ganyguy! You win today's William Tell honor... Loyalty is a vanishing quality in college sports sad to say. If you’re going to call kids out for not having loyalty, call out all coaches, ADs and the like who leave their situations with zero notice to take a better opportunity / more money. Players get the brunt of the criticism for this, but they aren’t the only ones. And it’s easy for any of us to sit here with unrelenting devotion to St. Bonaventure, but let’s not pretend like we (any poster that is employed or was once employed) would not seriously consider changing said employment to another company if eight others called you all offering varying sums of more money - because almost all of us have a family to support and we would consider their needs and improving those situations…

At this time, It is hard for me to understand why any player would transfer to SBU ? A disappointed Brown Indian fan. I know it’s been a little disappointing, but outside of our usual limitations (location, size, etc.), we have a lot to offer in my opinion. Outside of the power 6, the A10 is right there with the Mountain West, West Coast and American conferences as the next best — far above 20 other D1 conferences — with national exposure better than any of those (with the exception of Gonzaga singularly). And, even considering the last 2 years, we are one of the most established programs in that conference and have consistently been invited to major non-conference tournaments with tremendous fan support. We also have 3 starting spots open. We will be able to attract starters. They may only be here for a year two moving forward. But we can still attract players. I have no doubt about that.

You are making too much sense, atlbonnie. We must all be disappointed at our 20-win season

I expect to see Barry at G Mason. Hope he selects Manhattan College and joins BRETT. Would like watching him do well there. I know there's probably a 1% chance of this happening, but hoping to see Barry change his mind and come back. He was a difference maker when he was in the game.

You are making too much sense, atlbonnie. We must all be disappointed at our 20-win season CTM, you’re somehow missing all the signs of a program in disarray. We won 20 games, yeah. Congrats to us. Five of our OOC wins were against teams among the worst 5% in D1 hoops. For the third year in a row we have a mass exodus of players … a mix of underclassman and rented NIL transfers. Super - that’s the new era of college hoops. So let’s just order more of the same for next season. Really? We were .500 or worse for the second straight year in conference… after being picked for 2nd or 3rd by most experts … and we finish by losing to bad teams too frequently. Most players underachieved, did not improve and/or did not gel down the stretch. The two A10 tourney wins were gritty but it’s obvious to most fans that this team was a mess way too often … and was the most inconsistent team in decades. Then we have an ex-AD, coach, boosters and fans obviously not on the same page regarding the NIT … and we watch as four rival A10 teams snatch NIT bids while the ”opt out of postseason news” is kept undercover until ESPN posts the now infamous graphic. Even then, many posters couldn’t believe the graphic — they wanted more proof or figured it was wrong. It’s not about what SBU the institution has to offer. We all know it’s a great school with a solid bball tradition. There are so many pieces totally disconnected and alarming: player development, chemistry, team unity, the type of players getting our NIL money, un-coachable players, a damaging rift between the new PG and veteran head coach who is forced to play a recruiting game and coaching style that doesn’t suit his strengths. It goes beyond the win-loss record. Do you really feel bringing in a few more paid-to-play outcasts is going to make 2024-25 a better showing than this season? Maybe you were satisfied with 20 wins and all the underachieving and uncertainty of what to expect each game day. I certainty hope Schmidt & Co can figure this out quickly, but right now it’s way more cloudy than sunny in Bona Basketball Land.

Thank you for explaining the past few weeks to me like I’m 5 or wasn’t paying attention, bigcat. It’s every person’s hope when they log onto a message board to be belittled in such a manner.
I’m impressed that you somehow knew what to expect every night in the “Ironman 5 2.0” years. Hopefully you made plenty of money, because I sure didn’t. I wasn’t as satisfied with this team as you imply, but I am not going to come on here and post on a message board that recruits should not come here, like the post I was directing my post towards. This is still an attractive basketball destination with an obsessed (to a fault) fanbase and a coach who works extremely hard to get the best out of his players. Does that always happen? No. But I’d send my 3 or 4-star son (never had a prayer of happening with my lack of athleticism) here. I’m proud of my school and this program. 20 wins or a .500 conference record is not cause for the sky falling.

And I am also at the forefront of questioning Schmidt and co. Is he the right voice in today’s world of CBB? We’re going to find out. But as it pertains to the original question (why would anyone want to come here), I do believe we are still very well positioned within the A10 and where the A10 stands in grand hierarchy. And I do believe Schmidt’s track record would be extremely appealing to a younger player. I’m not satisfied with last year by any stretch. But in today’s world, you build a team one year at a time and last year didn’t work. We aren’t at that much of a disadvantage compared to other A10 teams (a lot of teams graduated a lot of points/minutes and plenty are losing players to the portal) and at the very least, we have a decent core with Assa and Noel (sadly 2 players coming back nowadays is actually considered decent). All the said, the next 12 months are really big for Schmidt and this program’s trajectory. But I still think there’s plenty to sell right now.

I was never questioning why a player or any student should attend SBU. I was pointing out that there were too many bad facts and signs the last two seasons to be overly optimistic. A few posters think this will all be fixed through the portal which did not happen the last two seasons.
And the 20-win “celebration” for this season is a joke with our experience/roster and wins over so many horrible teams… and bad losses as well.

Coach has actually said that “these days you cannot win with young players”. It can be argued that Kentucky is learning that, and they get the 4 and 5 star players! I agree with a lot of what you say, bigcat, but you didn’t explain how you would go about recruiting. I think it is plain to see tho… Bonnies will be using the portal…
