Talk about poetic justice. Greg Sankey SEC’s commissioner stated "We are giving away highly competitive opportunities (for other P6 schools) to automatic qualifiers [from smaller leagues].” Start of the NCAA Tournament SEC is 1-5, with 2 of the losses were to Oakland and Yale “automatic qualifiers from smaller leagues.” Following are posts on X. -- "SEC Commish Greg Sankey has tried to push a narrative that low-major and mid-major programs shouldn't get the access they have in the NCAA Tournament in the weeks leading up to the tournament. It's fitting they've now lost 5 games in the first round, and two of them by low-majors." -- “The SEC is now 1-5 in the tournament (Alabama and A&M still to play) with losses to Oakland and Yale. No wonder Greg Sankey wants to get all these small schools out of the dance.” By the way automatic qualifiers from conferences, which Greg Sankey opposes won 6 games in the opening round of the tournament (Yale, Duquesne, James Madison, Oakland, Utah State and Grand Canyon). sports.yahoo.com/social-media-reacts-greg-sankeys-003233933.html?fr=sycsrp_catchallthat's the only good thing about the tourney. Under dogs is why people watch the tourney. Calipari complaining that his 18 year olds were beat by grown men... Etc. Well, sorry you are struggling in today's NCAA but so are the small schools. All he has to do is call and recruit the best older players from smaller schools. It sucks that landing 12 McDonald all Americans year after year is no longer working for you. LOL>. I mean What the hell.

The women’s tourney has not been exciting. Fewest upsets in history over the first few days, most games blowouts. Holy Cross played the Iowa women well for a half and Rochester’s D. Fair got Syracuse to the second round vs UConn. Still aways to go to see the parity on the men’s side, however.

Everybody's fawning over CC. Folks seem to have forgotten about Paige Bueckers and UConn. Big mistake.
Bueckers poured in 32 pts as Huskies ousted Syracuse (Fair w 20). Added 11 boards and 6 helpers.
Imho, since conference tournament play began, no woman cager has been as sharp in every facet than Bueckers.
Pwige has one attribute CC lacks -- an effective mid-range jumper. Clark better develop that skill b4 she heads to the pro level. Can't live on layups and logo layups alone in the WNBA.

Unfortunately, the halftime shows have been very bad. There are very few highlights of other games and tons of commercials. The antics of Clark Kellogg and Charles Barkley are childish. The show misses Bryan Gumbel. They continue to make fools of themselves.

In one of the other tournaments, Seattle beat High Point 77-67 to win the CBI.

It’s the worst elite 8 in many years. Nothing but bloated state schools and football schools. Not a single team left that I can say I like
On to baseball. See ya later March madness

All of us mid-major honks want to see more underdogs survive. We’ve been fortunate the last few years. I’ve gotten behind Clemson because they’re a good bunch of dudes and coach Brownell seems like a classy, normal guy. And I can’t stand most of the other teams left now that Houston limped off the court last night. Clemson has three starters and maybe others who played in the Charleston Tourney vs the Bonnies three seasons ago. Lofton, Holmes etc came back from 16 points down to stun the Tigers. Hall, Hunter and Schieffelin (the Chef) have stayed four or five years, helping to turn around the Clemson program. That seems rare. Yeah Clemson is an ACC school with 20,000+ students but they are no bball blueblood. It’s their first Elite 8 in 45 years. That’s all I got until Bama blows them out tonight — though the Tigers beat them earlier this season! 😫

I guess if there's a team out of this horrible bunch I would pick it could be clemson. certainly rooting for them tonight anyway as Alabama is the single worst representation of this ugly era of hoops

That being said - The Grand Canyon / Alabama game was a great watch - brutally physical game. I'm pulling for Clemson tonight for sure, but if they "let the play" and swallow the whistles it will be curtains for Clemson.
Rooting for NC State / I've been an NC STATE fan since the 74 team with David Thompson, Monty Towe, and Tom Burleson. My grandparents moved to Raleigh in the mid-sixties from NY and Gramps got us all NC State National Championship gear. I was hooked on College Hoops from then on. The first full game I remember watching was a Digger Phelps coached Notre Dame team breaking UCLA's 89 game winning streak (1/19/74). NC State beat UCLA in the Final 4 2 months later.

And Clemson…..in the last few minutes of their game against Arizona , coach Brownell designed two plays that absolutely befuddled the wildcats. It could be an interesting game.

It was 23-all UConn and Illinois just before half. Seven minutes after the break, it's 53-23 UConn. 30-0 run. Ballgame. Their D is simply awesome. Illini just getting run out of Beantown.

Very pleased for NC State as the Wolfpack, and a great performance by the big fella DJ Burns, knocked off Duke to reach their first Final Four since the Jimmy V title team in 1983. Ironically, both are 11 seeds.
Also pleased for Kevin Keatts, whom some of you remember from UNCW and that last-second Seahawks win at the RC a few years back. The man can coach.
