Don’t mind arrogant and obnoxious because he backs it up but whiny gets me just like Boeheim.

Ever since John Thompson put the towel on his shoulder and Jerry Tarkanian bit the iced towel, college coaches fell the need to stand up and give orders. I doubt the players listen or can hear. The coaches would get the same result if they say down and let them play. My HS coach was one of the first to stand and yell. We won anyway with talent.

pretty sure all coaches stand up and yell. Bobby knight etc You can hear a coach yell at you b/c you are constantly looking in that direction. When I played in HS the place was somewhat loud but for some reason the only thing you hear is the coach and the teammates. Never thought about that but it's like you're tuned in and the rest is background noise.

Nice to see Danny Hurley at the top of the College coaching tree too. He's not afraid to coach kids hard. Great to see him have success - without having to coddle and kiss ass to get results out of this "new age" of athletes that we are now seeing more of (not all kids mind you). The good ones need to be coached hard - and WANT to be coached hard (IMO). Granted - the pendulum did swing a little far to the "screamer" style - with the likes of Bobby Knight - Woody Hayes and others (Following the the more calm & staid John Wooden-esque model). More recently - the trend had begun to over-correct with all the ESPN windbags and others preaching to us how kids don't respond to a tough coaching style anymore.
Good for UConn and Hurley to have found the right mix ... I believe be Coach Schmidt is of a similar ilk - not subscribing to the "coddling" school of coaching. Lets hope he can put together a new group of kids that will develop the same type of attitude and chemistry that Hurley has been able to @ UConn.

Why would any St Bonaventure fan be happy for Danny Hurley? Not only was he a conference rival for several years, he and his family have trashed our school on numerous occasions But he “coaches hard” yeah ok….

kc - what are the specifics of the Hurley family trashing Bonas? I do recall any incidents. The fact he coached in the conference and had some success against us shouldn’t bother anyone. We’re in a competitive conference so there will always be opposing coaches doing their best to beat us and out-recruit us, just as we do them.

If memory service me, I thought he was a coach that defended us when we didn’t make the tourney when we should have. I know wade, Shaka and I thought he was one too.
