The "Man-hertz" showed up at his INTRODUCTORY presser in a BLUE sport coat. F'ing blue. WhoTF does that? From that exact point in time I had zero trust in him. Very poor attention to detail and has since not been able to get out of his own way. Think it's about time.............

I do not believe Bona AD Manhertz will be adding this bungle to his resume if he looks at greener pastures. This whole decision reeks, and reflects on the administration entirely. Pathetic communication skills and decision making, which in essence is the AD's job description.

from the article. (thanks for sharing) St. Bonaventure Athletic Director Joe Manhertz confirms in front of a Jandoli School classroom Thursday morning that Bonaventure players found out about the university’s decision to opt out of NIT along with the general public Tuesday night. “We didn’t communicate to the players,” said Manhertz. “We did that [Tuesday], after everything blew up.” -- wow. Its time to move on to a new AD

After reading this BV article it is now more than ever necessary to fire Manhertz..........he has no clue about Bonas, none....zero....he thinks he is still at Duke. Totally unprofessional in every single way. Please read this article, apparently after two years plus at Bonas he still has no understanding of our culture, or record.........fire him.

If I thought he was going to actually grow AND stay at SBU, I would give him a second chance. However, he has already interviewed last year for a new job and he probably is already looking for another job this year. The President and BoT should help him along sooner rather than later.

Key quote in that BV article (where I was features editor and columnist 1969) below. Schmidt very much part of decision--and despite players getting paid these days, and alumni fronting it, apparently no pressure from anyone to make them play. No mention of injuries being a cause either. What a quote: "How much are they going to give?" will now pertain to alumni... ________
According to Manhertz, player meetings were conducted Sunday regarding their plans to stay at Bonaventure or enter the transfer portal.
“Players gave us an indication of what they wanted to do Sunday,” said Manhertz.
According to Manhertz, he and Mark Schmidt, along with other athletic advisors, ultimately made the decision to reject any possible bid.
Manhertz expressed concerns over potential player motivation following transfer portal decisions.
“If they tell us they’re leaving and then we say, ‘Guys, we got one more game so suit up.’ That’s rolling the dice on what kids are going to do.” said Manhertz. “How much are they going to give?”

Absolute basement banter...complete BS nonsense. How can anyone look that guy in the eyes and trust a thing he says or does.
Has turned the athletics dept into an absolute clown show.
Done.

The “selling” of the decision is just asinine. Its basically twofold: (1) We’d prefer to be associated with the teams that rejected, rather than the teams that played. No recruit is going to be impressed by rejecting the NIT. And (2) I didn’t realize what a bunch of losers this school’s supporters are (that are satisfied with the NIT). Sir, GTFO.

Because of lack of interpretation can interfere with the message of your two points , I assume the 2 points are Manhertz' view of Bonaventure culture.

Yes (excepting that recruits won’t be impressed by rejecting the NIT. That is my response). I have been in the blame being on Manhertz and Schmidt (but wanting to hold Manhertz accountable due to Schmidt’s long standing service and belief in our school). Because when we knew little, I felt it was their responsibility to lead and even under a scenario where players weren’t wanting to play (which we now know was not the case. A couple players indicated they would be entering the portal, but Manhertz’s phrasing is clear that he did not believe players would compete given that). I now blame Manhertz solely. Schmidt’s boss clearly does not believe in the NIT. He did not have AD support. Whats he supposed to do at that point?

Who hired Manhertz? Not a good fit for a small university. He only worked at large schools. He is living in a couple places. He was looking for another job right after he started. The article in Olean Times mentioning MAW being a problem for Schmidt this year makes sense. Players notice and things like this can really disrupt the team dynamic. This probably explains lack of focus in losses to LaSalle and SLU.
