Watching the Ohio State- Cornell game on ESPN 2 and they listed St Bonaventure as one of a group of teams that turned down an NIT Invitation. Why is this the case? It says a lot about the state of college athletics today. Pretty disappointing that they would turn down an offer to keep playing.

the players are firmly in control of the sport now, and moving forward.

If true, this is very upsetting and embarrassing. If it is player driven it makes me dislike this group even more. Hope this doesn't have ramifications for a future NIT invite.

Not sure how/why Schmidt puts up with this revolving door. I guess making $1.8mm a year helps. At some point soon it will likely be time to walk away from all this BS.

Is a single reference or comment to be trusted as accurate? I have not seen that reported anywhere else and just because someone (who?) mentions it on ESPN doesn’t mean it is necessarily accurate. If anyone has heard this from any other source, please let us all know. Until then, I am following the Jandoli Rule - two trusted sources before publishing, or in this case, before believing. CBS showed a list last night and Bonas wasn’t one of those listed as declining invitations. At a minimum though it would be justified for someone from the BV or OTH to ask Schmidt or the AD if it’s true.

At some point soon it will likely be time to walk away from all this BS. it wont be much longer until MANY coaches walk away from this contrived insanity. its pretty much all over for the mid majors and below as they will not be able to afford this for long. only the big time state schools with high powered , profitable football programs, will be able to afford to subsidize their hoops programs.

Ceharv, I was watching the Ohio State/ Cornell game and unless my eyes are bad and I do wear helpers, but St Bonaventure was on that board of teams that they listed as turning down an invitation. Sorry, but I find it hard to believe that we would turn that down. One would think that the players would love a chance to extend their season and turn it into something. It's insight as to why this team underperformed for the year!

Only “Mid-Major” (sorry for that term) to turn down NIT bid!

Wow. That’s incredibly frustrating and disappointing if true. And I have no reason to think ESPN would have that information wrong.
We are absolutely not at the point as a program where we should be turning these invites down.

Anyone who’s giving the NIL collective should be outraged by this

Anyone who’s giving the NIL collective should be outraged by this Further, any player receiving funds should have money withheld if there’s any payments left. Absolutely disgusted with this the more I think on it.

If indeed this report IS true, who is responsible? Manhertz? Bueller?
I'd find it hard to believe Schmidt would balk at an invite, esp considering the great run to the Garden by the Ironmen 2.0 only two years ago.
Whoever the culprit is should find his head on a pike!
