This sort of thing is happening in NCAA Football. All Americans are sitting out their teams' bowl games. The players claim they do not want to risk injury before the NFL Draft. It seems unfair to their teammates, fans, and fellow students. Charlie Baker has some fence mending to do to restore "the old college try".

They were speculating that it was because our program wouldn’t be able to afford the travel costs (they also still thought the NIT final four was in MSG) but good god is this embarrassing! those clowns on WGR are a joke though Granted that and most of them are Syracuse guys, but none the less, not favorable appearance for SBU Athletic Department at the present.

Dayton (as you might recall) turned down an NIT invitation last year, citing injuries and the need to get healthy. The same might apply to SBU. I wonder if anyone in the media has contacted Schmidt or the athletic department to inquire?
Did UMass reject an invitation to the NIT?

It's still early in the day in Olean. Let them get to work and hammer out a news bulletin.

The NIT field for 2024 was announced Sunday night. If Bona’s declined they knew Sunday night. If this scenario turns out to be true Manhertz is in the doghouse. If not there still should have been an announcement yesterday to squash the rumors. Either way he is delinquent in his job as it is now Wednesday morning and we are still waiting for some press release.
Which will occur first? Kate Middleton will be found or Joe Manhertz issues a Press release.

Some rumblings that this was not true and that would be good. I hope the athletic department responds accordingly Of course the athletic department will and should deny this. It's not like ESPN is going to come back out and refute Bona's claim. Do you know how much heat SBU received not only from its own fans, but from the general public? Save face. It would be a terrible look to say our coach of 18 years couldn't convince his own players to play in one more game. No chance Adams-Woods or Pride would play in that game. Throw in the transfers and the redshirts and who exactly would be able to play?

I believe that a big part of the problem is allowing the transfer portal to open the day after (March 18) the tournament bids are announced and awarded. I hope that I am wrong, but I do not how we will compete long-term in the new NIL world.

Back off the ledge. The administration will do whatever. In today’s society accountability is not necessary. Save your rants and rages because it won’t change anything. The old timers on this board like myself have seen this coming. I take solace that I can play golf now to escape the drama in today’s society.

An explanation is expected at 11:30 via a donor Zoom regarding ESPN's broadcast showing SBU as one of 17 teams who declined an invite to the NIT.
I believe fans deserve more than corporate speak, and specifics on whose decision it was and why, as well as when players found out.
