Duane said “After a great year, I am looking forward to the upcoming season, as a Bonnie”
In a tweet, good news.

Three amigos: Rose, Thompson and Kaba. They should be way hungrier than the group of guys who already have exited stage left. Hopefully Noel stays. He seems like a great young man and an emerging leader. Said the right things when he got most of the minutes at center in Brooklyn. The big man and three amigos!

Let's hope they are comparable to the Lofton/Shoon/ Welch freshman trifecta. I think this brings a level of excitement to next years team. There was no bigger fan of Assa and Barry than me. They were my favorite players the past two years and I wish them luck in their search for better opportunities. But let's put the brakes on armageddon to our program for next year because they hit the portal. These two combined averaged 10 points a game. Combined. I think we can find those 10 points and more from somewhere else. Yes, they both rebounded well and loved their potential but I am certain we will be able to find replacements for both, either from our three amigos or from the portal. That is what makes it exciting.

Duane made a lot of fans today. Bonnies fans desperately needed to hear some good news. Just seeing Duane confirm that he’s still on board brightened my day/outlook. I like him, Rose, and Kaba. Now we just need about 7/8 more guys.

It’s not armageddon but it’s preventable and sad to see them leave. I stopped being a Yankees fan decades ago when MLB teams had revolving doors. Then it spread to all sports. Now we see it in college hoops and football. I felt those were two good kids we could all get behind (maybe Banks too), who really cared about SBU and fans. Damn shame.

Now we just need about 7/8 more guys. Balla, love your post with the exception of the last sentence about bringing in 7/8 more guys, which I think was too many and part of the problem, at least with Luc. Like you, I was excited about what appeared to be the amount of talent brought in last year. I felt that last years team was the absolute deepest team i have ever seen at Bonas, and i'm an old fart. but In retrospect, we brought in too many quality guards, which resulted in Luc getting buried like he did. i'm not saying Luc didn't have his share of mistakes. But with 4 guards you know are leaving, he should have been given more floor time this year and he should have been handed the point for next year. We enticed him away from Holy Cross. Rookie of the year for their league. He did enough to show that he could be a good player for us with proper development. He played energetic D, he had speed to beat his defender to the rim, draw other defenders to him and then dish to the wings or cutters for more open shots for them. I wonder if part of the problem with the O this past year was Mika being a good, smart player, but being slower than his opponent the majority of the games, not beating his man and often throwing looping passes to the wings that allowed the wings defender to recover and our guy not having the time to launch a three properly. But I surely agree with you that Duane's post gave us a nice boost, I think he is a perceptive kid, and i remember posters on here who went to preseason practices who had nice things to say about his game. So my humble opinion is that we certainly need several more hopefully excellent players. I would love to see Noel stay with us next year. One thing positive on that is that when Noel showed how well he can play, coach eventually got him more time. But IMHO hopefully we avoid any log jams like the one Schmidt created at guard this year.

Glenlaw, excellent points and post. I give it 5 stars on Google 😀 ⭐️ . Couldn’t agree more. Luc and Evans were casualties of too much depth. Those two made mistakes but they certainly brought energy, passion, quickness and athleticism to a team in desperate need of those traits. Yet some game days they were afterthoughts or DNPs.
Love our coach Schmidt, but his stubbornness and inability to understand that you have to keep talented young players engaged and involved it’s perplexing —unless you actually LIKE/LOVE looking for 5 new guys in the portal each spring.

Sometimes I think I was watching a different game than everyone else. Luc dribbled too much, couldn’t finish after getting to the basket (what good is beating your defender to the basket if you can’t convert a layup or floater?) and did not have a 3 point shot either. He was a good defender but not good enough to warrant keeping him in the game with his offensive deficiencies.
37% 2-point shooting, sub-30% 3-point shooting for his Bona career and 11 points on 11 shots per game before he was replaced by a much better point guard. It’s okay to say he wasn’t A-10 starting caliber

I tend to agree about our guard play this season. Woods and Pride both lacked quickness which hurt us on defense. Our guards were not good at passing the ball. There was too much dribbling. That is coaching. I was not a fan of Assa’s game. He passed up too many shots because he was too slow and you can’t teach quickness. I believe it is incumbent on the player to improve his game. Evans was a disrupter but too limited offensively. We need better players to compete. Hopefully, we get some young hungry talent.

Good to see how quickly we return to every recruit and player is great, but they’re hot garbage when they leave.
