I would think this is a very good thing for the program, most notably in the next 5 years or so. I’d think most student athletes follow the NBA and thus know Woj - having accessibility to him at our program should increase interest from recruits and give us some sort of name brand recognition into all things NBA that we’ve failed to sustain when the program has hit highs in recent years. In the longer term, we’ll see. No more “Woj bombs” means the youngest generation won’t connect the dots to the make recognition.

As the college game turns more into NBA free agency, you’d think this would help.

No hyperbole, this is a monumental moment for the program. I have to think this is a major boost for recruiting (particularly with transfers), scheduling (this might be a reach by me, but major ESPN tournaments seem more possible) and fundraising. And, wow, how lucky are we to have someone like Woj make a commitment like this to the program. Extra energy in my day for sure. Thanks Woj

WOW - bold move by both parties! From the school’s perspective recall that the expertise of the previous AD was fundraising, whereas Beretta had little experience in that important area (or at least it wasn’t highlighted in the info the school provided that I can recall). From the description of Woj’s duties in the press release issued by the school, it appears Woj will be taking on a big fund-raising role as part of his handling of various aspects of college hoops finances, including NIL money oversight, dealing with collectives, etc. General Manager is not a term usually associated with the sports hierarchy of colleges. I wonder if his hiring is designed to provide more of the Athletic Department fund raising duties that the previous AD (Geez I already forget his name - I’m such an oldster, even though I can’t claim that name) was supposed to provide a school always short of money. Maybe his duties could also include encouraging his former co-employees at the world-wide leader to stop mentioning the scandal (or how remote the school is) every time one of our games is carried on the Deuce, which maybe now will be more often(?) I really hope this proves to be a Win-Win. I expect it to be.

Fantastic news for the Bonnies! Best and most influential move for Bona's since hiring Mark Schmidt. His experience, contacts and knowledge and commitment to his alma mater one cannot put a price on. Very excited about this hire. Now we have a Bona alum as AD and GM of men's basketball alum in Woj.

Not a completely new concept. Athletic programs began hiring GMs a couple years ago. It has picked up steam in the last 6 months. Good to see Beretta and Schmidt on the cutting edge. We might be the first in the A10.
